By it’s very definition the universal binaries run on PPC and Intel. All future versions will be Universals. Whether you install them on PPC or Intel. So the only people that will NEED them will be the new intel Users, but I also assume that on that day, if you were to go purchase FCP 5 for your new G5, it would be a universal binary.

I think the whole problem is not with how it handles the out frame. No system is stoping a frame before or after. It’s how they define the out point. LInear systems, which I started on, defined the out point as the first frame that you are “out.” More like a live switcher. And we are “out” when we press the button, defining a different shot or camera angle.
However, a nle still calls it out, but every system I’ve worked on defined the out point as more of the “end.” Much like defining a space on the timeline.
So, having worked in the linear and non-linear world extensively you’d think it messed with my head, but both methods make sense to me in each’s situation. When sitting in front of a computer monitor it seems natural to mark the start and end of a clip. A chunk if you will. While editng on linear systems the word out to me simply meant that you were out on that frame. Meaning somewhere else.

So PR is page rank, not press, promotion or press release? What is SEO and Links Business? I guess I don’t know how important google is to SEO and Links business since I don’t knwo what that is. I guess it’s as important as you or your client thinks it is.

Everybody sets up tone for whatever headroom they think is acceptable. -20 is extremely conservative. In fact, the lower you set tone, the higher your chance of gettng distortion. For example you set tone at -20 and your peaks are hitting -6 or -10. You hand off the tape to a dub house and they dub it to another tape and they like tone at -14 (standard usually) or even -12. Your -6 peaks are now at +2 or right around 0. Distortion and clpping occurs.
But, in your internal situation, you have control, so why not simply calibrate the machines? Play tone at whatever level you like out of FCP, and make sure it’s being recorded at the same level or lower to add headroom? For example, if you needed a little headroom, play back a tone signal from FCP at -14, and record it on the digi beta at -20. That may be what Chris was referring to, just needed a little detail. 🙂

I know there’s a language barrier here, but I’m trying to figure out what PR in QuickTime is. As well as SEO. Do you mean QuickTime as in video playback, or do you mean quick time (as you wrote) as in get it done quickly. Both seem equally pertinent to a question about web design.
If you’re asking how to get your web site noticed in Google, you have to design for it. Google and other search engines can only read and follow text and text links. So if a site is flash or graphic based, it still needs text on the home page as well as good old fashioned text links across the bottom for a search engine to follow and index. How high it comes up in searches depends on the correlation between the title of the page (very often overlooked, but VERY important to google) and the text within the page. If the page is called Web Design for Beginners, and the text within the page never mentions web design or beginners then it probably wouldn’t come up in a search for web design for beginners. However, if the main text mentions it a couple times, and then there are links to other pages such as “beginner design” and “web design basics” or “beginners start here” etc. then those pages will be added and considered wtihin a search for web design for beginners. The whole relevance of the site will somehow be taken into account by google’s proprietary algorithms. The goal of google is to provide honest relevant links to credible sites. The take great measures to not include sites that use methods to trick searches. For example, repeating words on a page over and over. Or adding text that is the same color as the background. Or a page with no links to any other page. These kinds of trickery would probably get a site disqualified.

Thanks for vaguely mentioning you’re in high school in your 3rd post. And now, it’s in all caps in your signature. So you need to decide if you want to be treated as a high school student that doesn’t know much, or if we should treat you as an equal and call you out when you repeat yourself and don’t listen to basic advice. You can’t have it both ways. You can’t claim “don’t treat me like a fool” and then in another breath say “hey I’m just a high school student, be nice (paraphrased).”
We were (me at least) just treating you like an equal. You talk a lot about progressive and interlaced and GL2 and TRV and frame mode, etc. You sound very knowledgeable. So when you admit you’re not connected to a monitor, but keep badgering the point that your screen doesn’t look good, we treat you like any other video pro and tell ya to hook it up to a tv already! I’d have said the same thing to Walter or anyone else. We don’t know your experience level. You sounded like you had quite a bit, but just refused to hook it up to a tv and wanted to continue discussing how it looks when you still hadn’t hooked it up to a tv.

Matte’s standard response to any FCP issue aside, you’ve got a big issue. Start backing stuff up. Give the trashing prefs a chance, but you may have some corrupted footage or even a corrupted project. As well, it could be a conflict between your QT version and your FCP version. I was having some of the issues you describe when I upgraded to QT 7 before upgrading to FCP 5. Things seemed to work, but things quickly started deteriorating. I was unable to get a particular sequence to play back, but I was able to export it as a self contained movie and save my butt. created a new project file and imported the self contained movie and the clips and all seemed to be well. Soon after I upgraded to FCP 5 and haven’t seen the red screen of death since.
