FCP Weirdness
Working last night on my G5 with FCP when I began to get very weird problems. First when I tried to move a piece of video I got a “Operation Not Allowed” followed by a RED screen with instructions to close the window and reopen it. Then I got an “Out Of Memory” error.
What I was doing was making changes to existing spots… 3rd revision. I made duplicates of the spots then began adding new graphics and such. But every time I tried to make a change I’d get the “Operation Not Allowed” prompt. Seems like something is amiss.gf

The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).

Matte’s standard response to any FCP issue aside, you’ve got a big issue. Start backing stuff up. Give the trashing prefs a chance, but you may have some corrupted footage or even a corrupted project. As well, it could be a conflict between your QT version and your FCP version. I was having some of the issues you describe when I upgraded to QT 7 before upgrading to FCP 5. Things seemed to work, but things quickly started deteriorating. I was unable to get a particular sequence to play back, but I was able to export it as a self contained movie and save my butt. created a new project file and imported the self contained movie and the clips and all seemed to be well. Soon after I upgraded to FCP 5 and haven’t seen the red screen of death since.
