From what I can see the other 2 sites don’t have any out transitions. They just CUT to a blank and then animate in regardless of where you’re currently at. That is the simpler trend. On your site it’s actually more complex in that your links do animate out and then the new page animates in. Tell you the truth, watching any of this stuff animate in and out bugs the hell out of me when I’m trying to get information. And that’s what the web is all about. So how do I bookmark one of the sub pages/links on your site? I can’t. All I can bookmark is your home page. Then I’m forced to navigate through all the effects I’ve already seen. Something to think over. Somewhere there’s a happy medium with the use of flash. I tend to think the better use is with elements on a page. Not a whole site. Google can’t read or index one single word of your flash site either. So it all depends on who your audience is and what their needs are.

We’re talking about blurring 1/3 of a scan line/pixel. If your pictures are so low rez that that would make them look that different, then there’s no way that they’re creating ringing. Ringing requires so sharp an image that pixels definitively fall on one field or the other only.
In answer to your AE question, yes, AE’s subpixel rendering is light years ahead of FCPs and you’ll find that if you need to go that route it may solve your issue. But making changes becomes a bit of a hassle. You should be able to accomplish thsi in FCP and PS.
Deinterlace will essentially cut your resolution in half. It would solve the rining, but you’d be better off with a vertical blur.

I was having a hit and miss experience with that old school way for awhile. New pages from scratch didn’t work, so I’d copy an old design and rework it and it would work. Guess what? If you’re using a new doctype, it doesn’t fly. Which my new pages were using since I probably had a DW update. You’ve got to use an older doctype or none at all to get the 100% table trick to work.

Not completely true. While DV is a a very slightly compressed format, it doesn’t affect text THAT much. It’s 5:1 compression occurs almost all in the color information, not in resolution. Dub a digibeta of something with beautiful text directly to a DV tape via component or sdi and see if the text looks bad. It does not. Usually the problem is with FCP or user error or both. Example, placing text on an odd vertical number in the motion tab. Make sure all text is on an even pixel. 2, 4, 6 etc. not 1.37 or 2.46, etc.
The text should be better looking in fact in the canvas window at 100% or 50% with any sq pixel correction turned off. It’s displayed as uncompressed RGB there. But on the ntsc you’ll see the DV compression. And oddly enough you’ll see more issues with the compression if you’re looking at it with a svideo or component signal. If you look at it with a composite signal (as most viewers will) the compression artifacts melt away.

So why not use an iPod? It doesn’t require it’s own power source which is nice.

Right click on the keyframe in the viewer and choose smooth.

Gausian blur isn’t the best idea since it actually blurs your image in all directions. You only need to blur vertically, which is what the flicker filter does. Give it a whirl. If you want to blur in photoshop make sure your blur is directional (90%).

And the data rate you’re using in DVDSP is? If you’re seeing these issues on a burned DVD then something is going awry in the DVD process, not the FCP export process. Too high a data rate might be creating the freezes if the DVD player can’t keep up. Audio spike could be related in some way.
I generally use 4-7mb/sec vbr if I remember correctly.

Well it’s kinda annoying. When 5.1 came out the only difference between it and 5.0.4 was that it was a universal binary. No reason to upgrade if you’re on PPC they kept saying. So, many PPC folks (like myself) didn’t. And now they’re adding new features and such and you have to have 5.1 to get those upgrades.

Do you realize you can place the ps file on the timeline as a sequence and everytime you update the ps file it updates automatically in FCP?
Did you also know that there pretty much is only 1 speed at which a roll is useable? Check adamwilt.com for more info. To change the speed, you generally want to change the leadng and font size, not the actual speed the pixels are moving. The basic gist is that you need to move your roll 120 pixels per second exactly.
Doing it with PS correctly should produce zero noticeable artifacts in DV.
And before, why did you have to dig through text layers? There is no need for more than one text layer for a title roll. You can use as many fonts and sizes and styles and colors as you like in a single text layer in photoshop. So for this exercise you’d have one text layer and one graphic. Two layers.
