    Hi FCPc,

I own a registered FCP version 5.04. I need to ugrade the software to 5.1.2 to allow me to edit from a JVC HD camera which has just come in.

I go to https://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/download/ and log in with my apple id. I then accurately insert my serial number for my FCP.

it says the serial number you entered is not valid!!! Great!

I really need to do this before the client comes.

Thanks for your help in advance.

You can’t download the update to 5.1.2. You must send in your original install disks and get the Crossgrade from Apple for 5.1 and install those. THEN you can get the download to 5.1.2.

FCP 5.0.4 is the end of the line for FCP 5.0. You cannot get any further updates until you have done the crossgrade. Takes about 7 – 10 days.

I’m sure it’s there somewhere. Has also been discussed dozens of times on this forum.

My 5.0.4 number worked and I was able to download 5.1.2 I found out after trying to install that I needed 5.1 to get to 5.1.2 And it isn’t spelled out that you do. Also, Apple could do better at finding older versions of anything Apple.

For what it’s worth, I’m going through the crossgrade process now. I sent my discs off a week ago and yesterday was notfified that my new software is on it’s way via UPS ground. Not a bad turnaround.

Looking at the detailed information link from Apple on the 5.1.2 download page:

Previous Release Information About Final Cut Pro 5.1
This version of Final Cut Pro is designed to run natively on both PowerPC-based and
    Intel-based Macintosh computers.
    Installing Final Cut Pro 5.1
Final Cut Pro 5.1 uses the new Universal application format, so the entire application
must be installed (as opposed to updating your existing Final Cut Pro 5 application).
For more information, see Installing Your Software.

So it’s there, you just need to read the detailed information on the download. I guess they figure there’s been so much discussion and press about the 5.1 crossgrade, and it’s been out for quite some time that most FCP users would know that 5.1.2 is and update to 5.1

Well it’s kinda annoying. When 5.1 came out the only difference between it and 5.0.4 was that it was a universal binary. No reason to upgrade if you’re on PPC they kept saying. So, many PPC folks (like myself) didn’t. And now they’re adding new features and such and you have to have 5.1 to get those upgrades.
