Since you know you’re dealing with 29.97 frame rate for footage shot in HDV, I would shoot with that on the F-3. You can downconvert your final project if you need it in 24p later.
Convert your HDV to Pro-Res. There is a log and transfer plugin on Sony’s website for the XD Cam. So you won’t have to transcode the XC Cam footage. Just copy the entire folder from your SxS cards onto your drive and then back them up to another drive.
Once you set up your project, I always drop the XD Cam footage first onto my timeline to set up the sequence settings.

There are always some jobs that I really don’t want to shoot. That being said, sometimes I just overprice it so they’ll go away, or sometimes, I get surprised, and they REALLY NEED my services and pay up.
This happened recently on a travel job. I didn’t want to drive 6 hours and even tried to tell them to hire a local shooter, but they saw my work and they new I had extensive knowledge of the subject matter. Therefore, no matter how much I charged, they were going to pay it. They were happy to receive a quality product and I was happy to finally be paid what I was worth, plus a bonus.

I use both cameras along with the 7D. You’ll have the same “Jello” effect with any of these. Also, if he is “wip panning” it doesn’t matter what camera he has, it’ll all be bad.
I try to use camera stabilization with the DSLR’s as much as possible. Even when shooting cinematic type movements, I’m on a slider, crane, glidecam, tripod, etc. In the rare moments I handheld, I brace my elbows and pull the strap against my neck to stabilize the shots.
I returned the 5D MkII after the first week because of this. I bought an EX1 because I needed a high end camera. Later I picked up the 7D, 5D, & 60D for my B Cameras. I use my EX-1 as my main camera so I can also control and monitor my audio.

What model # is the Rode. I’ve used two different Rode mics and the results are very good. Nikon is a camera company, so I’m sure they have someone making the Mic for them. I can’t comment on the quality without testing the Mic.

You don’t need a loop for this camera. Just use the eye piece already on the camera. I am also left eye.
I use DV Tec support system. https://www.dvtec.tv/index.html
Also use a tripod…. as a monopod so I can open it up as a tripod when needed.

The old version of the Glidetrack can stick, but they have a new Hybrid Version with rollers that looks promising.
https://www.glidetrack.comB&H also sells this slider
I ran across this very inexpensive slider called the Konovo Slider. Here’s a blog about it. Under $500.

These are still cameras that happen to shoot video. They don’t have video mirroring, which is what you want. It also crops the image and puts up your camera info around the image.
I do have an external monitor which helps for focusing.

There is a service in LA that you can send your footage too. They will develop and transfer it to whatever format you wish. I don’t use 8mm, so you’ll have to google it.
