What is an “A55?”

The 60D does a great job for the price. I use steadicam with my 7D. Dial up your F-stop to 6 or higher if you can to increase the depth of field. Set your lens to infinity on the focus.

I never try to adjust focus with a steadicam, it’ll ruin your steady shots, causing bumps and shakes. I also use my 7D on a crane with a monitor.

I’m not sure what a “x1” is? Do you mean an EX-1? If so, there is a USB port that you can plug in your camera. Then just drag the BPAV folder onto your hard drive (the entire folder). From there you can edit with final cut using the log an transfer plug in (this has to be installed, it’s not included with final cut).

Sounds like you are in a big hurry. First, and I know this won’t help you now, update your systems and be consistent. Either get the new Adobe Production Suite or Final Cut Studio (new version coming soon).

Premier and Final Cut will handle the EXCam files (log and transfer plug in for final cut). I would do the editing grading in the native HD format and then downconvert to SD for your final step. At least, that’ my workflow.

You can look through the viewfinder since it’s on the back (EX1). I’m left eyed an frequently film sports. I’m on a tripod and it works fine for me.

LCD screen is fine, but you can also add a 7″ shoe mounted monitor for more precise focusing.

If you want to record in camera, you can use the Zoom with a cable attached and have audio both in the zoom recorder and the camera. The zoom will give you a better quality audio than just recording directly into the camera.

If you want a shotgun type microphone, the Rode mics have a nice sound and a good track record.

Of course, what type of shooting are you doing? That is what will dictate your audio. Interviews / Weddings, you’ll need a Lav. I use the Sony wireless Lav systems.

It’s an issue for those who shoot weddings. When the bride is coming down the isle, you have to keep the F-Stop at a high number, 6 or higher, and it will help keep every thing in focus. Also, set your focus ring to the infinity setting. Setting up your lens to a lower setting like 1.2 – 2.8 will give you a shallow depth of field.

You can use any lens you’d like, but you haven’t stated what kind of shooting environment you are filming. If you are outdoors in sunlight, any lens will work. Where you run into problems, just like video cameras, is in low light.

1.4 – 2.8 will give you the best results. This will also give you a shallow depth of field for that “film look” that everyone is seeking.

You get what you pay for in most instances. The Canon L-Series lenses are the best glass with incredible colors. They also sell a cheap 50mm lens 1.4 for around $350 that looks very good for the price.

Invest in good glass and fast lenses (1.4 – 2.8) and you’ll never regret it. I recommend canon’s 24-70 2.8 L-Series lens for a start, if you’re on a tight budget. With your camera cropping facter, it’ll be like shooting with a 90 mm lens on the long end.

Prime lenses are fixed and not zoom lenses, like a 50mm or 80 mm. These lenses will allow for lower f-stop and better low light performance.

Clean your sensor & lens. Also try another lens using the same settings. Just in case it’s a lens issue. There shouldn’t be any noise at that level.

Not sure what the issue is. Did you copy the entire folder onto your drive first? If not, some data may not transfer.

Try quitting and restarting final cut.

If all else fails, use another program to transcode to pro-Res. Just do a few clips first to see if this solves the issue.

Have you used the log and transfer before without issues?
