No, you do not want to log and transfer from the cards. Always backup your media to your hard drive first. I create a folder for my shoot, then subfolders for each card. Drag the entire card over. Then back it up again to another 2nd drive for safe keeping. Then you can use your log and transfer to access the files you copied to your drive.
It’s recommended to lock your cards before plugging them into your Mac. The Mac will write a code onto your card. I’ve never had a problem with this, but some cameras may have problems reading the card after being plugged into a Mac if the card is not locked. Of course then you have to remember to unlock it if you want to delete and reuse your card.

Yes, I realized a similar post was already here, but alas, the specific answer to this question was never addressed. I even posted it a few days ago on the Cannon DSLR with no reply.

Shane, how did you add the 60D? I have the 5D and 7D, that worked great, then I recently added the 60D and discovered the log and transfer didn’t work.

Not sure what you mean. You don’t have to use it for anything, but it’s ok to use if for a variety of projects.

I use DSLR’s for weddings. I would definitely recommend the AF100 for weddings. You’ll elevate your look and be able to raise your pricing accordingly.
There is a learning curve as mentioned here, but once you have it down, you’ll never want to shoot with a traditional video camera again.
You can also making money shooting for other companies. It’s harder to find DSLR shooters or AF100 shooters than traditional camera operators. I also have to spend more time training new hires.

If you have the budget for the 5D MkII or MkIII, why not get a real video camera with the DSLR look, such as the Panasonic AF100.
The DSLR’s have a great look, but also many issues when shooting video. It’s definitely challenging using DSLR’s for video, and not as cheap as many people think. You still need to go out and buy multiple lenses, audio gear, & support systems.
If you are set on getting a DSLR and have the budget, then I’d get the 5D MK III. If you are trying to save on a budget, the 60D is a great camera and the only in this bunch with a swivel screen, which is a tremendous help for shooting video.
The issues with the DSLR’s are low quality audio, Moire, Jello effect on the video when hand held, rolling shutter. The upside is the shallow depth of field and a film like look using various lenses.

Video CoPilot.net has just what you need. They spent some quality time blowing up stuff. They have lots of muzzle flashes, explosions, fire, etc. Very reasonable.

The limiter will limit the amount of audio, keeping some of the peaking levels to a set level. Compressor’s can also squeeze the audio.
For receptions, I use the automatic gain, since the audio is all over the place and I don’t have any silent spaces where my gain will boost. It’s worked very well for me and I don’t have to worry about distortion. I use a wireless either plugged into the board or a handheld mic on a stand in front of the speaker, as well as an on camera mic for the 2nd track of audio. For better audio, you may want to invest in a Zoom H4N recorder.

I think the output is only 720p with the cropped frame to display controls on the camera. It’s not a good way to display or capture. Doesn’t work like a video camera.

It’s not really a big difference than shooting a wedding. You need to get a timline of events and a clear explanation from the client or coordinator on what is going to happen. It varies from event to event. Usually there is some kind of entrance, but you have to find out ahead of time so you are not surprised.
