You might have some Moire, but usually nobody but us professionals actually notice it. I wouldn’t worry about it. The 5D advantages and the shallow depth of field fare outway the shortcomings.

I haven’t had any problems carrying on the camera with a shotgun mic.

The only way I would be comfortable with this is not to show any faces. These are minors and only their parents have the authorization to sign releases. Schools do have releases, but some parents OPT OUT. If you don’t know who, then you put yourself in a bad position.
I would tell the DJ to take a few photos himself and block out the faces. It’s not worth the risk.

I’ve had a Sony EX-1 for a few years. It’s a great go to camera.
But if I were to buy another camera, it would be the Panasonic AF-100 and some lenses.
Stay away from the 5D since you have the budget for a real video camera with the options and controls. The AF-100 will give you the DSLR look with the video features. Plus the 5D has a limitation of around 12 minutes of recording time before you have to push the button again. Not good for long seminar type corporate work.
