Has anyone traveled recently and carried on a shotgun mic?

Any way to find out… I thinking it might be hard to confirm such clearance over the phone as most people are not familiar with a “directional mic”.

    I’m traveling on Southwest.

    Thanks!!!

It should be fine, I’ve never seen mics questioned, just never use the word “shotgun” around those idiots. It’s a “long range, narrow-field microphone”. Pack the original, official user manual with the mic in the same box or container as additional proof.

Sometimes you may be asked to demonstrate a piece of AV gear for some security person, like firing up a camera to show it takes a live picture. If I was truly worried, I would pack the right cables and accompanying stuff to quickly hook up the mic and demonstrate that it works.

No problem, just don’t use the word “Shotgun” or TSA might slam you to the ground in handcuffs.

So I guess I should also avoid saying, “I don’t plan to do any shooting until we’re at altitude”.

    They’re becoming real sticklers…

What about carrying on an entire camera, namely a Sony NX5u? Is it OK for the camera to go through the X-Ray scanner?

    Thanks

I haven’t had any problems carrying on the camera with a shotgun mic.
