July 4, 2011 at 8:33 pm in reply to: Can’t move empty Events?

I have a empty event only with some keywords and smart collections setup as a template without any media that I copy to my media drive when I start a new project.

    Seems to work.

Is that what you are meaning?

    Cheers,

    Brendan

  • Hopefully paste and remove attributes functionality gets added back in soon though, I’m no programmer but surely that’s not too difficult….

But can be lived without in favour of 1 or 2 slightly more important features which should be added first.

    Cheers,

    Brendan

  • As you probably aware, unfortunatley the balance and match colour effects are just a checkbox on and off and any tweaking is done by jumping into colour board or using a filter on top.

It would be nice if the match and balance process simply adjusted the settings in the colour board.

Yes I miss the “remove attributes” option as well. It’s a bit of a hack but you can remove all colour settings on 1st clip, then command+c to copy, then select all the other clips with effects on and then hit option+command+v (paste effects), so instead of “removing attributes” you are simply pasting nothing…I did warn you it was a bit of a hack 😉

    cheers

Yes good point about not being able to lay off to tape etc so as you suggested the mutiple sequence option would be the best bet. Thanks.

Would also be great to see audio busses as per STP implemented at some stage in the future.

It’s great to see all the work-arounds, tips and tricks on offer here as we work through the early days of the software.

    Good tip this thanks.

Only 1 extra keypress but will save a lot of pain towards the end of edit.

Sorry I didn’t make it clearer, but yes, the solution of publishing the template as a final cut generator applies to your question 2 as well.

July 3, 2011 at 11:40 pm in reply to: Naming compound clips?

You can name your compound clips that you have created in the timeline….like many things in X, it’s not that obvious.

Select your new compound clip in the timeline

Go to the video inspector ( command + 4)

Choose the “info” tab at the top of the inspector

By default it is set to “settings view”

Go to the bottom of the inspector where you see a dropdown menu saying “settings view”

change this to either basic or extended view.

Once you have done this you’ll find an editable name field….

    Not exactly obvious is it.

From inside motion you can open both your motion 4 and 5 compositions like you say, and to make them reappear back in final cut it’s not entirely obvious I found.

In Motion, select File / Publish Template

To have it appear in FCP X you need to tick the box Publish as Final Cut Generator.

Here’s hoping the simplify things and let us import Motion projects directly in FCP X like we use to be able.

Not that it’s the most elegant of work arounds, but perhaps the 1st thing to do when beaking apart audio from video is to add a marker to both video and audio on the same frame so you can line back up if required.

No you’re not missing something….We are all missing something…no sync warnings I am afraid. I think they intended everyone to use magnetic timeline feature the whole time and not want to manually position clips / audio.

You would hope that’s very high on the list of functionality to reinstate.

    Cheers,

    Brendan
