Still had the same problems persisting after running onyx…. was a fresh system so bit the bullet and did a clean install of the OS.

If you go the video inspector as you were doing, instead of selecting the video tab select the one there called generator.

There you will find all the parameters.

When I first played with the blending modes in X, and failed miserably… I tried the fcp 7 approach.

v3 foreground (in fcp 7 you would set this to travel matte luma / alpha)
v2 – matte / hicon etc
v1 Background

It seems counter intuitive in X to place you background on the top and then you also have to say…Go to the back would you.

but hey it works.

I have also decided on key-wording for retaining several in and out points on a clip.

Specifically for the reason mentioned earlier, quite often for different versions of an edit you will want to have different length versions of a talking head. So quite often the in / out points will overlap so using favourites will not work in this case.

Either by using control+1-9 for preset keywords, or hitting command+K and type in the first sentence the person says.

Then to keep the events browser tidy I create a folder (eg interviews) and drag all the keyworded items in there.

I’m sure everyone will find a way that works for them best.

Like you mentioned, you can only achieve the “blade all” functionality of fcp7 inside of X by doing a lasso selection of the tracks stacked on top of each other, then peform a command+B.

Ahh yes, I see what you mean, I was only duplicating an event, but as you point when command+drag the event (move) to a different location….nothing happens

Just did another test….if you try to move a brand new empty event it wont allow you to do so, but if you add any media to the event and delete it again it will allow you to move the empty event….hmmm…odd
