I forgot to mention that since I’m capturing footage from the game engines, I’m also responsible for setting up and operating the cg cameras for each shot.

Does anyone here used MegaPEG.X, and do you like it?

Well, I got it working. I switched out the firewire cable yet again, and this time plugged it into the port on the back of my G5 instead of the one on the front. Thanks all for your suggestions!

Hmm, I’m having problems with FCP seeing my DV decks – I get audio but no video. I tried the Quicktime reinstall trick with no luck. I’ve now discovered that when I’m trying to log, I can see the video if I set the capture to DV PAL (even though the miniDV tapes I’m using were all recorded to DV NTSC). Anyone else experiencing this?

I tried all of the above with no luck. I’m now capturing with a Sony GV-1000. It’s not on the list that you posted, but I’ve been using it with FCP for several years without incident until now. So here’s what’s happening: When I’m logging, I can see the video if I set the capture to DV PAL, still doesn’t work with DV NTSC. But the problem here is that all of the tapes that I’m capturing are DV NTSC – I’ve tried with tapes recorded on the HVX and also an XL1s. Any idea what’s going on?

I’m using a couple of JVC higher end consumer decks, they didn’t have problems before the upgrade. Yes, both audio and video are checked in the clip settings. The capture settings are Firewire NTSC which allows me to control the deck, and DV NTSC which previews the audio, but with video checked it shows the color bars with only “preview disabled”. If I try and capture now, it says there is no video signal!

    Oh yeah, another question:

Apple recommends using 128bit blocking for media drives. My current XServe RAID is set at 256bit blocks for each RAID 5, and the RAID 0 stripe of those two is set at 32bit blocks. Does this sound about right, or should I change something?

Borjis, thanks for sharing the table. I’m using it with the HDLink right now and it looks really good. However, the lookup tables only affect what’s in the viewable area, in my case the middle half of my monitor (when viewing 720p on a 24″). The outer area around that still needs to have the contrast raised to kill the flickering caused by the monitor’s default blacks which aren’t black enough.
