The pojects would not “directly” be transferable. Projects made on Newer versions of FCP will not open directly in older versions of the software.
Although it IS possible to do this with the proper export of the timeline…
It would be easier and “better” to use the same version of FCP on both machines for projects that you’d bounce between the Macs.

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).

Are you using a Laptop and an external FW HD by any chance?
What is your set up on this computer?

A good workaround is to NOT USE Capture Now.
Set some In-points and Out-points and log the cuts, then Batch Capture.
That has worked flawlessly for me for YEARS.

There is no NEED for a FW “Hub” as Daisy-Chaining the camcorder to the second port on the back of the FW Hard Drive case will be exactly the same thing as connecting the Hub.
If you have a Powerbook, you should buy a Firewire PCMCIA Card for the card slot.

This seems to be the answer to many of these kind of problems.
AND…
You should not have TWO FW video devices connected at the same time.
i.e. A DV camcorder directly into a FW port AND the io unit on and connected to a FW port.

You can use any alpha channel image (a Title, a Photoshop image with alpha, etc) to cut a HOLE (in it’s exact shape) and “Fill” it with other moving (or static) video… all “keyed over” another video track.
V3: Fill clip (what you want to be “inside” alpha)
– Select (highlight) THIS clip on V3, then:
Modify (menu) > Composite Mode > Travel Matte – AlphaV2: Any “Alpha-channeled” clip (or title generator)
V1: Background clip (will be seen outside the “hole(s)”)
If you end up with the “reverse” of what you want, swap the clips on V1 and V3.
Remember to change the settings (Modify (menu) > Composite Mode > Travel Matte – Alpha) on the clip that is now on V3.You can move/expand/reposition the V2 clip or even use it as a custom “wipe”.

Images are rather BIG (dense) for one thing.
1440 is usually all you need, even for “zoom-ins”.
At some point the too-high resolution looks like “noise” on a video screen.
(You might try adding a bit of blur filter to the noisey image.)
Are the images set to RGB color?

I’m not a big fan of “Capture Now”, it always seems a bit “iffy.”
So I usually set an IN and OUT point and capture that way.
BUT…
Try actually SETTING a limit on “Capture Now” (say 30 minutes) and give that a try.
