  • Can’t see video when try to digitize

I am trying to digitize DV via firewire and I cannot seem to get the video to show up on my log and capture screen. The screen tells me that the VTR is OK and I see the timecode running in the TC window, but no video. I have restarted and thought maybe it was because my AJA I/O was hooked up, but I turned that off and am still having the problem. I have checked the firewire port and it is working, so I am guessing it may be a setting. I just upgraded to FCP 5.1.1, so I was wondering if that has anything to do with it. Any ideas or suggestions?

    Thanks.

Have you tried a different firewire cable, it could be a bad cable

I have tried a new cable and different DV decks. Still the same problem.

    OH yes…

    Try looking here:

This seems to be the answer to many of these kind of problems.

    AND…

You should not have TWO FW video devices connected at the same time.

i.e. A DV camcorder directly into a FW port AND the io unit on and connected to a FW port.

Let’s get the bonehead stuff outta the way first:

Can you see video in the external monitor?
Are your A/V presets set to DV NTSC?
Is your View menu set to External Video > All Frames?
Have you upgraded anything lately, especially OS X or QT?

    Matte–

The Quicktime did the trick. Thanks for the tip.
