A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCP (Pro) & FCE (Express) and a new one for FCP 5.Download these free Apple Scripts at

February 7, 2007 at 10:04 pm in reply to: I’m losing my mind with EDIT TO TAPE!!![chris] “I don’t think our deck will do insert edit – DVCPRO Panasonic Aj-D650
We just do Assemble”In that case, there is no reason to fully stripe a tape.
You’d only need to go to just past, say, the first 2 minutes. After that, to do what you want to do, you’ll need to just let the tape “roll” (in black) AFTER each short program until the TC reaches just past the next ‘minute’ point (where you will then make the next Assemble Edit.)
As was said, ASSEMBLE records over any previous TC (or lack thereof) on a tape.

February 7, 2007 at 8:51 pm in reply to: I’m losing my mind with EDIT TO TAPE!!!What DECK?
Yes, you must use INSERT to do what you are attempting.
ASSEMBLE is not designed for “coming OUT” of an edit cleanly (glitches, especially in the TC, are likely).
Also, INSERT is designed not to need to write Timecode during the edit.

February 6, 2007 at 9:13 pm in reply to: In search of a good, omnidirectional micBest bet is to find a local shooting/recording pro to come and help set you up right and show you some mic techniques.
There are too many variables for you at your (self-admitted) low experience level to to answer adequately on a bulletin board.
