DVD to dv conversion
Posted by Jim Finn on February 10, 2007 at 3:29 pmI am trying to go from the dvd VTS files and get it into Final Cut. These are not macro protected files. Is there a way to do it with a free software? Or is there a good one to buy?
thanks, jimRafael Amador replied 19 years, 3 months ago 5 Members · 14 Replies -

February 10, 2007 at 5:02 pmthe mpeg streamclip is telling me i need to buy something from apple to run it from a dvd and the others cost between 80 and 120 dollars. One thing i tried was to compress is to mpeg4 in handbrake and then bring it to dv in streamclip but i imagine i’m losing quality with that. haven’t seen in on a tv though.

February 10, 2007 at 5:13 pmThat’s odd. What does it say you need to buy from Apple?
I’ve installed it on 4 machines, and it’s never told me I needed to buy something.

You will miss the two most important features of MPEG Streamclip:
– you won’t be able to play MPEG-2 files and transport streams;
– you won’t be able to convert MPEG-2 files and transport streams to QuickTime, DV, AVI.However, all other features are always available, including playback and conversion of MPEG-1 to QuickTime, DV, AVI, demuxing of MPEG-1 and MPEG-2, AC3 decoding, and conversion from transport streams to MPEG files (useful if you have Toast 6).
MPEG Streamclip is free of charge but the MPEG-2 Playback Component has a small price (around $20/

February 10, 2007 at 5:25 pmAre you using Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Express? You need the MPEG-2 playback component.
All the best,

February 10, 2007 at 5:29 pmIf you have FCP, then you have QuickTime Pro. QuickTIme Pro installs when you install FCP.
Have you actually treid to install and run it MPEG Streamclip? You might not have a problem at all, if your QuickTime Pro is insalled properly, which it should be if you used the Installer, then it should just work.

February 10, 2007 at 5:31 pmI just re-read your post. What version of FCP are you running? You may just need an older version of MPEG Streamclip.

February 10, 2007 at 5:31 pmSounds like the installation wasn’t done correctly. If you correctly installed the Studio suite you should have it.
All the best,
Tom
