Don’t know if its the Mac’s issue or the DVD recorder’s issue.
So I guess you can give it a try with your set-up and see if it works.
But I just always dub first from FCP to DV tape, then I can make my DVDs dubs while I continue to edit on the Mac.

Hold down Shift-Option and then DRAG the clip to another track.
It will stay on the first track untouched and also copy itself to the second track. -
You should not attempt to shoot dialogue with the on-cam mic (as ytou discovered).
But an OMNI-directional mic is not the best choice, either.A good ‘Directional’ mic is what you want, and you should have someone holding it (or have it mounted on) a boom-pole, so that it is JUST outside the picture area when shooting dialogue.
Pro mics have XLR connectors and you need an adapter to connect them to your camcorder’s 1/8-inch mini-plug.
The units made by BeachTek
are a popular choice for these kind of mic-to-camera connections.

What kind of research gives you the information that:
A. 2 passes equals dropouts on DV?
B. well over 200 passes before dropouts on DVCAM
C. there is any significant DIFFERENCE between DV and DVCAM tapes?

What you are looking for is called a “Display Turntable”
They rotate at a MUCH slower speed than 33.3 or 16 rpm of a phongraph.They can be found with a Google search for “Display Turntable”.

One time he just turned around 180 degrees on the track and drove that flutter
into the line of cars behind him. Lapped ’em twice the wrong way.
When they pulled of the track to avoid him, he spun around again and 3-lapped ’em
to take the lead.
If if wasn’t for that dad-blamed flag-judge, he’d a won.
Made him so mad that he was disqualified he drove on out to the lake and put that
flutter of his into the deep-end by the dam.
I sure do wish I had that car.Oh wait, maybe it was a FLIVVER.

Well, there MUST be those options.
How else would you be able to do a “video only” insert (which is the primary USE of the insert edit).
Sense you don’t see those choices, I’m guessing that is your problem, that the audiot tracks are not activated.
