This is not actually a function of most video editors.

It is a complex audio effect that will cause severe audio artifacts as you change how the music is resampled.

I suggest that you record the VHS to DV tape first,
then capture the DV tape in the normal manner.

This may take extra time, but it can save a multitude of problems in the long run.

There are, of course, different “choices” for INSERT edits.

Since you didn’t say if you have the proper channels selected for the edit,
I thought I’d better mention it.

Otherwise, do you have another “edit-controller” unit available?
If so, try connecting that to the 1800 and making an INSERT edit using that.
If the deck works with that, you’ll know the problem lies elsewhere.

There are times when you don’t want a menu to play… AT ALL.

There are certain “continuous playback” systems that are designed to just play DVD’s one-after-the-other for point-of-purchase, in-business (and other) uses.

They work from a multi-disk DVD player (just like can be done with multi-CD players set for continuos repeat).
The DVD’s are supposed to load into the player, play until the end, eject, and the next DVD loads and plays, etc, over-and-over.

If a menu were to pop up at any point on any disc, the system would “hang” there as the menu looped continuously.

My first thought is that this sounds like a “White vs. Super White” issue.

Touch the right-hand Canvas window (to activate the timeline you are working with.)
Hit “Apple-0 (zero)”
Click the “Video Processing” tab.

Make sure your Process Maximum White as: is set to “White”
and select “Render in 8-bit YUV”.
Then re-render your effects.

The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

You need the clips to have EXTRA FRAMES (“handles”) before and/or after the cut-point for the length of thre transition.

If the clip only has 30 frames of “unused” footage after the cut, then you can only dissolve during those 30 extra frames.

I think every one of the camera input units has a “mic-line” switch on each channel.

So it should be no problem feeding from the board at line-level.
That said, there is absolutely no way to tell just WHAT KIND of MIX you will be getting from the board.

I’d even go farther and say “fine” is an understatement.

I think most real-time DVD recorders (at their Higher Quality (one to two hour) settings make great quality DVDs.

And, yes, the SPEED SAVINGS over in-the-computer compression and burning are enormous.

What you don’t get is those great DVD Menus that the Mac software can help you create.

But I mainly send out client and approval dubs on DVD (instead of the hideous quality VHS copies I used to send).
