I have built many “com” systems for just a few dollars.
In this system, there is no “SIGNALING RING” to alert anyone not already wearing a headset to put one on, but under normal circumstances, everyone in my crew just wears the headsets under “show” conditions.
This system is SO EASY that many will scoff… but it WORKS.
———————————————————————————————-Just buy wired headset TELEPHONES (any kind you like, ones with VOLUME controls are great).
Run phone cables to everywhere you need a headset (they “daisy-chain” perfectly.)
You are only using TWO WIRES (Red and Green) so you can get by with just about an kind of cable run.
Quick-and-dirty is to buy lots of 25′ and 50′ pre-made (with the “ends” on) phone cables, and lots of those little phone-line “splitters”… so that you can run as much or as little cable as you need, to as many locations as you need.

The “trick” is the POWER SUPPLY:
You want about 12 volts to 24 volts DC (24v is better).
Connect the power supply to the Red (+) and Green (-) phone lines and turn on the phones.NOTE: You MUST insert a “choke coil” between the AC-to-DC power supply (+) and the phone line.
Without the “choke” the “hum/ripple filter” built into the power supply will also filter out the audio on the phone line.

We have great luck going WIRELESS with this system, too.
Just buy cordless phones (with headsets) and hook them up in place of any of your regular phones in the system.This is such a SIMPLE, inexpensive, and reliable system that I hardly ever unpack my CLEAR-COM sets anymore.

If you want to just TRY this out (to see if I’m NUTS),
you CAN use three 9v batteries in series (21v) to power-up and see what you think.
(The 9v batteries won’t last a very long time under show conditions, they are just for a “test”.) -
The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).

BTW, I have heard of a “limit” to the number of REAL TIME titles FCP can handle (and its a pretty big number), but if these are all RENDERED, I don’t think that’s the issue.

There is NO DIFFERENCE (in the digital info) between DV SP and DV LP.
It is just a speed setting on the camcorder.
The quality of the audio and video FILE will be the same.
The head rotation speed in the camcorder will be the same.The only TECHNICAL difference is the slower speed at which the tape is pulled across the heads inside the camcorder.
But that’s a big difference, and it can usually be a BIG PROBLEM.
LP is not a “safe” speed.
There is so little space between the “head-swipes” on the tape (they actually overlap) that even with a “clean” recording, it is unlikely that it will play back consistently even when played on the same unit that recorded it.
And there’s a very good chance that it won’t play back well AT ALL if played on a different unit than the one on which it was recorded (due to slight differences in head alignment.)I would NOT USE DV LP.

Cam cases are a matter of preference for the kind of traveling you do, and what else you may need to carry WITH your camera.
Just for example, there are lots of “hard” cases that come filled with foam, that you can custom-fit to your gear.
If you prefer a “bag” there are choices there, too.
I use a ROLLING camera bag
Lots of room for a “one-man shooter” to drag along the extras

You must only judge QUALITY on an external video monitor, not on the computer monitor.

You can use a white card or the white ice… whatever you SAY is white, will be “white.”
The first professional “real TV camera guy” job I had was an “end-zone’ camera for a full “truck crew” for an NHL game, sending the pick-up back to a major market.
BIG “studio” camera, hand-crank zoom on the right hand, manual (of course) focus on the left hand.
Trying to follow-focus and pan/zoom with that puck, from that distance, was a “trial by fire” for me.
If you can shoot THAT well, you’re on your way in this biz!

If there is a FW External Hard Disk (or other FW device) connected, try unplugging that/those, and see what happens.

This is assuming a tiny lav mic.
Try putting the mic in their hair, just behind the forehead (If they HAVE enoung hair.)
Gaff or spirit gum the cable to the back of their necks.
