March 6, 2007 at 12:10 pmThere is NO DIFFERENCE (in the digital info) between DV SP and DV LP.
It is just a speed setting on the camcorder.
The quality of the audio and video FILE will be the same.
The head rotation speed in the camcorder will be the same. The only TECHNICAL difference is the slower speed at which the tape is pulled across the heads inside the camcorder.
But that’s a big difference, and it can usually be a BIG PROBLEM.
LP is not a “safe” speed.
There is so little space between the “head-swipes” on the tape (they actually overlap) that even with a “clean” recording, it is unlikely that it will play back consistently even when played on the same unit that recorded it.
And there’s a very good chance that it won’t play back well AT ALL if played on a different unit than the one on which it was recorded (due to slight differences in head alignment.)I would NOT USE DV LP.

March 6, 2007 at 12:52 pmDSR-11 will NOT playback or record to LP mode.
Stay away from LP mode.

March 6, 2007 at 2:04 pmFCP fully supports LP recording. Pro DV decks, however do not. And LP recording is so unreliable, that you often cannot play tapes recorded in LP on a different type of camera than the one you shot them on.

March 6, 2007 at 3:46 pmThe simple is that FCP support LP recording but DSR-11 not….. another deck is supported… LP recording is so unreliable….

March 6, 2007 at 7:22 pmNo, FCP doesn’t support LP or SP. It supports DV. LP or SP all looks the same to FCP. It’s a 25mbps stream. If you have a deck (not dsr-11) that will play back LP then FCP won’t know the difference.

March 6, 2007 at 8:16 pmHi
However QuickTime (since v6) does have a DV Video Track Pitch setting in the Apple FireWire Video Out Settings dialogue box, with DV. DVCAM and LP options.
This control manifests itself in FCP (when a FW device is detected) in Audio/Video Settings>A/V Devices>Playback Output:Video>Options.Presumable you have to be outputting to a device that can record LP under device control.
