  • odd text/title behavior in FCP 5.0.4

    Hi,
I am witnessing something I cannot figure out even tho I’ve been doing the same thing for years. If anyone can help, I appreciate it.
I have a project in FCP 5.0.4 which has many title cards, created simply in the viewer text control panel. Usually, I create one with the correct properties (font, size, kerning, drop shadow) in Control, and the position in the Motion window. For the rest, I copy and paste the first one and change the titles accordingly, yet all properties remain uniform. This worked at first and the entire project was rendered and exported. When I went in to change and add more titles, the properties will not copy and paste, the font stays the same but the kerning and position change to some default looking thing. No matter what title, nor where it gets pasted, including new sequences, it will not copy the customized properties. I trashed the preferences, renamed the file and results are the same.
Any idea what to try next? I need to get all of the titles to look uniform in the customized version.
    best,
    koko

The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

    Next:
THE FOLLOWING COMES FROM THE KEN STONE WEBSITE:
“Over 5,000 years ago Confucius wrote: ‘If you are toiling away, you have changed nothing and FCP heads South on you, [starts behaving in strange ways] then it is time to trash your FCP Preferences.’ ”

Click the following link for instructions.

    https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/trashing_fcp_prefs.html

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCP (Pro) & FCE (Express).

Download these free Apple Scripts at

    https://fcprescue.andersholck.com/
    or
    https://pistolerapost2.com/fcprescue/

This is one FCP tip that has helped in solving hundreds of “odd” problems.

BTW, I have heard of a “limit” to the number of REAL TIME titles FCP can handle (and its a pretty big number), but if these are all RENDERED, I don’t think that’s the issue.

Thank you, I trashed the preferences several times before posting, looks like last resort is to reinstall.
