September 21, 2005 at 10:04 pm in reply to: Another newby question“Retail” means it is not the “academic” (school) version.
The programs are the same, the license is different.
The Academic license states you cannot use the software on for-profit (professional) projects. -

September 21, 2005 at 9:35 pm in reply to: Is a Timecode Float possible?I don’t quite know what you’re asking.
Do you mean a “Burned-in Timecode Window” where you can see the timecode running over the video?
If so, you should make a copy of your Sequence (to keep the Master “clean”) just add the Timecode Print Filter.
Effects tab > Video Filters > Video > Timecode Print
You can choose TCG or TCR function.
You can NEST your COPY of the Sequence and the filter will show the TC beginning from the head of the Sequence.
Depending on your Sequence and your system, you may need to RENDER the effect.

September 21, 2005 at 11:58 am in reply to: Export FCP to DVDStudioPro – audio problems!First (to make sure) Trash the FCP preferences.
Click the following link for instructions.
https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/trashing_fcp_prefs.html
A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCPro & FCExpress.Download these free Apple Scripts at

——————————–Then, make a COPY of your edited timeline.
On the copy, MAKE SURE that you Select (highlight) ALL of your audio tracks at once.
Then choose:
Modify (menu) > Audio > Pan CenterThis will, in fact, give you a full mono mix.

September 21, 2005 at 11:50 am in reply to: title 3d gone crazy???The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.
Next:
THE FOLLOWING COMES FROM THE KEN STONE WEBSITE:

September 20, 2005 at 7:50 pm in reply to: Audio Sample Rate Problem: Matching captured media with source tapeThere could be an issue with info LOGGED in FCP4 and then captured inh FCP5.
Or, it could just also be some “glitchy” tapes and/or gear.
Are you playing on the same machine that recorded the tapes (the PD170)?
If not, what deck or camcorder are you capturing from?Sometimes there are head-alignment problems between two units.
——————————————————
Try this…Create a NEW FCP5 project (call it “Test” or something).
Open Log & Capture and manually set the exact same in and out points on a couple of clips (that gave you trouble in the old project).
Capture them in this new project and see if the problem goes away. -

September 20, 2005 at 12:14 pm in reply to: FCP 5.0.2 & AJA LO Sound ProblemYou might want to also post this on the “AJA io” Forum here on the COW.

And I understand that AJA tech support is very helpful.

September 20, 2005 at 11:11 am in reply to: Audio Sample Rate Problem: Matching captured media with source tapeDo some of the tapes (or sections of tape) have audio sampling rates at 32 kHz and some at 48 kHz?
This is kind of issue the dialog box should address.
