September 19, 2005 at 10:53 pm in reply to: Best arrangement for voice and musicIf you intend to shoot the show “live-to-camera” you need to have a dedicated audio operator who can operate a MIXER to adjust the music at the proper level (in stereo) combined with the lav mics.
Then, send that mix to the camera(s).But these shows are NOT usually done “live-to-camera” as its almost impossible to EDIT with the music locked to the video.
(And with all the physical excercise and SWEAT, you WILL want to be able to edit.)Its better to just play the music a a VERY LOW level in the studio (so the talent can stay on-beat) and just send only the MICS to the cameras (the music will be only faintly heard on the mics).
Then, during the edit, you can mix in the music at full quality and the right level (after you carefully make your video “fixes”).Another topic:
What kind of music are you using?
Is it cleared for use in your show?
You can get into some sticky problems if its not. -
You didn’t say how the system was set up during CAPTURE, but read the following and see if it applies to you.
The audio is, by default, intentionally MUTED to the Mac’s speaker output during Log and Capture.
So you should normally monitor the audio directly from the camcorder or deck you are using to capture. (It is the preferred method.)
CAUTION:
Many people have reported that noise or “pops” appear in the captured clips if the Mac’s internal audio is left on WHILE capturing… so may want to choose “Off During Capture.”However, there is a way you can turn ON the Mac’s speaker if you really WANT to:
—————————————————————-
In FCP4x and earlier:Final Cut Pro (menu) > Audio/Video Settings… > Capture Presets (tab)
“Duplicate” the Capture Preset you are now using, when the window opens rename it (I added “MacAudioOn” to the file name).
Click open the “Advanced” button in the Audio section and turn speakers to “ON during Capture.”
The Mac speakers/audio-out will now play Audio during the preview in the Log and Capture window.
—————————————————————-
In FCP5x and later:In the Record Tool:
Clip Settings, near audio buttons, choose: Preview: “ON”

(Well, there IS that little “software agreement” that you read and checked, no?)
There are always bugs and anomalies in new software… ALWAYS.
Individual systems and combinations of software WILL create “situations” that won’t show up at the testing of new software at the creative source.Experience says that any time you make a major change in equipment or software you should not be in the middle of a project.
Its just asking for trouble.“Murphy’s Law” (Whatever CAN go wrong, WILL go wrong.) is not just a superstition.
It is very frequently correct. -

September 19, 2005 at 11:36 am in reply to: viewing multiple video tracks at the same time[doggies] “Is the video suppose to actual “PLAY” in both viewer and canvas?”
No. Only one or the other will play.
The second screen will “pop” into sync when you stop playback.[doggies] “uh ohhhhh
Now the audio is not working…. : (“
The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.
Next:
THE FOLLOWING COMES FROM THE KEN STONE WEBSITE:
“Over 5,000 years ago Confucius wrote: ‘If you are toiling away, you have changed nothing and FCP heads South on you, [starts behaving in strange ways] then it is time to trash your FCP Preferences.’ ”Click the following link for instructions.
https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/trashing_fcp_prefs.html
A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCPro & FCExpress.Download these free Apple Scripts at

September 19, 2005 at 11:25 am in reply to: How to elimnate photo edges on TV monitor & Computer monitor using DSR-30You need to buy/rent a professional Video Monitor that has an “UNDERSCAN” setting.
Underscan shows you the entire video “raster” around all edges.
There are many professional monitors (I’d buy used) that have this feature. You can do a Google search for “underscan monitor” or similar.

September 19, 2005 at 11:19 am in reply to: fcp 4.5 question[gtg615] “A QUAD SPLIT OF THE 4 PRIMARY CAMERAS AND BOTH AUDIENCE REAX CAMS,”
How would you do that?
Do you have the capability of syncing 4 playback decks and generating a quad-split (with TC) of their outputs (with TC overlay)?
Otherwise, you’d still need to digitize all of each of the camera’s videos to generate the quad-split in FCP.Another choice would be to do an “Off-lineRT” (LOW-REZ Photo JPEG) capture of all of your footage (can fit many times the footage in a small HD space), make your edit, and then do a full-quality UP-REZ capture based on that (which will only require you to Batch Digitize the actual footage USED in the show.)
