viewing multiple video tracks at the same time
Posted by Doggies on September 18, 2005 at 3:22 pmIs it possible to view multiple video tracks at the same time?
How?
I have two – 40 minute tracks synched up in the time line (2 separate cameras, 2angles, same event).
I want to view both tracks simultaneously, so I can cut back and forth between the 2 angles choosing the best shot.
Is this possible?
Thanks

September 18, 2005 at 3:33 pmIf you’re running FCP 5.0, just use the Multi Cam feature.

September 18, 2005 at 3:35 pmif you have FCP 5 then yes, absolutely … read up on multiclip.
if you have FCP 4.5 then doubleclick the lower track and then set the Playhead Sync to “Gang”
then as you move the playhead in the timeline your canvas window will show the upper track and the viewer will show the lower, you can use control v or the blade tool (b) to place cuts appropriately and then checkeboard it afterwards -

September 18, 2005 at 7:05 pmHow about FCP 4.0?
Does FCP4 have a way to view multpli video tracks?I am afraid to upgrade to 4.5 on my G5 ’cause it may not work on my g4 titanium 667 powerbook.
I am almost certain FCP 5 won’t work with a 667 processor… : (
any thoughts?

September 18, 2005 at 7:31 pmGo to the “motion” tab of the viewer for that clip, set the clip’s size to 50 percent and move it over to one side of the viewing area.
Do the same for the second clip and move it over to the other side.
With clips sized at 50 percent you can see up to four clips simultaneously and use control-V to slice through the entire timeline at once, or select a clip and use control-V to slice through just that clip on the timeline.

September 19, 2005 at 2:22 amplayhead sync ganging was introduced with FCP4.0, so, if you’re working with just 2 tracks, this method will work for you.

September 19, 2005 at 4:18 amIs the video suppose to actual “PLAY” in both viewer and canvas?
It plays in which ever track I double click and updates the other when I stop the scrubber..
Is this correct?
uh ohhhhh
Now the audio is not working…. : (

No. Only one or the other will play.
The second screen will “pop” into sync when you stop playback.[doggies] “uh ohhhhh

The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.
Next:
THE FOLLOWING COMES FROM THE KEN STONE WEBSITE:
“Over 5,000 years ago Confucius wrote: ‘If you are toiling away, you have changed nothing and FCP heads South on you, [starts behaving in strange ways] then it is time to trash your FCP Preferences.’ ”Click the following link for instructions.
https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/trashing_fcp_prefs.html
A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCPro & FCExpress.Download these free Apple Scripts at

they won’t both “play” , it’ll be one or the other as you noted … but i think you should be able to scrub.
