FCP5 picture skips in viewer during FF and RW
Posted by Cy Chadwick on September 18, 2005 at 9:37 pmEarlier this week I updated from FCP version 4.5 to 5. I already had a project on the system and expected the upgrade be seamless and V5 work as V4.5. Not the case, when I FF or RW my rushes (in the viewer) the picture and audio skips, stops and starts and is generally erratic and difficult to work with any sort of accuracy. Any thoughts???

This is always an unreliable assumption.
This has been discussed countless times on this and virtually every other technical forum. You should not upgrade software until a project is completed and out of the system.
Sorry.

September 19, 2005 at 1:53 amDo you mean when you use the L key to speed up, it is jumpy? I have same problem even with a completely new fcp 5 project. I discovered as solution this week — DO NOT touch the mouse at all, while previewing at the high speed scrolling. It works much better that way.
Also change the settings under the RT settings on the timeline. Uncheck the Scrub High Quality setting, and also try reducing the playback setting from dynamic to high.
hope that helps

September 19, 2005 at 1:21 pmI assumed v5 uses the same quicktime. Surely if there was a compatability issue with projects already in use when upgrading asome kind of warning aught to be given by Apple no?
If I re-import alll the clips in to a new project will that sort?

(Well, there IS that little “software agreement” that you read and checked, no?)
There are always bugs and anomalies in new software… ALWAYS.
Individual systems and combinations of software WILL create “situations” that won’t show up at the testing of new software at the creative source.Experience says that any time you make a major change in equipment or software you should not be in the middle of a project.
Its just asking for trouble.“Murphy’s Law” (Whatever CAN go wrong, WILL go wrong.) is not just a superstition.
It is very frequently correct.
