Has anyone used Apple Final Cut Pro HD Retail? (I’m guessing the ‘Retail’ was added by the seller, not Apple). In the comments section is says: “This is a FCP 4 package with the FCP 4.5 HD update and FCP 3 license.”

    Any comments?

    Thanks

“Retail” means it is not the “academic” (school) version.
The programs are the same, the license is different.
The Academic license states you cannot use the software on for-profit (professional) projects.

Where does this fit into the hierarchy of FCP 4, 5, Studio?

It is not a SPECIFIC numbered version of FCP.

There are academic and retail versions of most releases of FCP 1 thru 5.

FCP HD is really FCP 5x.

    I guess you’re shopping eBay?

Be careful what you are buying.
Ask the seller the questions you want answered before you bid.

[Matte] “FCP HD is really FCP 5x.”

That should be “FCP HD is really FCP 4.5x.”

No, it’s on Amazon.com, if I buy it, it’ll be through them where hopefully their ‘A to Z’ guarrantee will help.

    Be careful.

Last I checked, “FCP HD” was FCP 4.5.

FCP 5 is FCP 5. Or FCP Studio if you’re buying the whole package, for those who are buying the whole package.
