Just to stir the pot…
I have written down what I think you will finally end up doing on a 3×5 file card and sealed it in a mayonnaise jar.
My only hint is that you will end up NOT shooting and editing in the way that you said you are intending to do.
Once you get closer to the project, if you will post back with your revised plans (and I know you will have them,) I’ll unseal the jar and read you my prediction.

Are you SURE?
Never encountered that on any little Panny before.
It would have to TRANSCODE the 16-bit to 12-bit in real-time to accomplish that and I see no reason it would “want” to do that.
Are you sure the tape is recorded in 16-bit.
Just asking because I can’t tell from here.

Dialogue audio may be out of phase.
The channels are canceling each other out.

Cam 1: Subject
Cam 2: MonitorON the monitor is a LIVE combination (via a video switcher) of Cam 1 -AND- Cam 2.
BTW, the Cam 1 (subject) shot can be a video tape, but Cam 2 and the monitor must be “live.”
