    Hi
I shot footage on HVX200 as dvcpro hd 720p24. I used the Log and Transfer window to ingest the footage into fcp 6. While the footage plays back okay in the preview window of the Log/Transfer, once it is imported into FCP, the audio is out of synch with the video. I’m new to this workflow–I used the easy set up setting for 720p. Is there something else I need to be checking? Thanks

  • How are you monitoring the audio from FCP?

    Hi Matte

This happens during playback either from the timeline or within the Viewer window in FCP. I’m monitoring it on the desktop audio. As I mentioned, this is not a problem when I’m previewing the files in the Log and Transfer Preview window. The ingested files are stored on a portable Firewire drive. Do you have any idea what could be causing the audio to fall out of sync?

    Thanks
    F

Well, Eureka, or should I say Duh…. I discovered that the audio sync problem disappeared when I unchecked the Advanced Pulldown option (listed under Preferences in the gear wheel drop down window in Log and Transfer). This makes sense since the footage was shot on 24p and the sequence preset for the project is 24p. However, I don’t understand why the Easy set ups for DVCPro HD 720 24p automatically enable the advanced pulldown feature.

Wow, I had the same problem and finding your post saved me. In my case the 720 footage was shot at 30fps. After import the video was about 10% slower than the audio so it rapidly drifted out of sync.

I thought I tried everything but I didn’t find the “Remove Advanced Pulldown” checkbox under the little gear icon, so thanks!

The FCP software team should be ashamed of themselves for leaving such a land mine hiding in there.

As far as I can tell, this setting is not changed by anything you set in Easy Setups or Audio/Video Settings. And I have not had the problem when doing importing before. Maybe what’s different this time is that I had to trash my preferences yesterday. If that is what caused the checkbox to be checked that means the FCP default for this setting is the way that caused the bad import. How do they justify that?
