The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).

Well, this is ONE way that SOME systems might work.
It is not “universal”, however.
There are basically 3 ways to connect a DV device (camcorder, deck, card) and an external FW HD and the Mac.

Deck > HD > Mac (or Powerbook)HD > Mac port A
Deck > Mac FW port BHD > Powerbook FW port
Deck > PMCIA FW Card > PowerbookWhile you might not have seen any mention of the “daisy-chain” method (Deck > HD > Mac) it has been discussed for years, here and elsewhere.
It simply does not work on many systems.
(If if does, its fine.)
But if doesn’t, users should try one of the other methods. -

WAIT!
DON’T DO IT.
That will PERMANENTLY remove all of the filters from the sequence!
You can UNDO it, but if you forget… they’re gone.
Now this would be fine if you create a DUPLICATE of the sequence and only remove the filters on the dupe.

I remembered that AAF is Apple’s iTunes “proprietary protected” format.
It designed to NOT be used in pro editing software like FCP.
Its even a violation of copyright laws to describe how to circumvent these safeguards.

What is AAF? (Too many abbreviations!)
What is the sample-rate?
I use imported audio files every day.
I convert them from their native formatto 16 bit 48 kHz “AIFF” files using iTunes or Quicktime Pro.

If its via FireWire, there are no adjustments.
What is recorded on the tape is digitally transfered (as a file) to the Mac.
