Do you have Photoshop?

If you “cut out” the head in Photoshop you can create an Alpha Channel around it and it will be easy to “float” it in FCP with the composite mode.

If you have black around the head NOW, you might try to “Key” it (Key is a video filter) over your background. (V1-Bkg, V2-Head with Luma Key filter applied)

It is actually very easy to do what you want, but I need to know more of what you’ve done, EXACTLY.

If you only have sync cable GOING IN to the sync input and nothing “looped” going OUT of the sync output…

The termination switch should be ON.

You always want to “terminate” the end of a “run” of coax.

Don’t know if this is the actual PROBLEM, but it couldn’t hurt to make sure its “right”.

With a 75 ohm TERMINATOR connected to the “sync out” jack.

(This is not just a “plug”. It has a 75 ohm resister connected across the pin and shield.)

This is only necessary if there is NOT a “termination SWITCH” (or built-in self-termination BNC jack) on the unit.

I’m afraid if you shoot interview audio using the on-camera mic, these are the results you’ll get.

Good-qulaity audio simply must be recorded that way.
Echoey, hollow, “off-mic” audio is not correctable with any filter.

You need to get the mic as close as possible to the subject’s mouth.

A Lav mic placed on the subject, or a “directional” mic aimed at the subject’s mouth and positioned by boom or stand JUST out-of-frame are the best methods.

If the room conditions are still too “bad” for recording a clean track, you must either MODIFY (deaden) the room, shut down the noise-makers in the room, or CHANGE rooms.

FCP must be set to access Ch. 3 & 4.
Here’s how (it is the same for PAL, but you will of course use the PAL settings):

Final Cut Pro (menu pull-down) >
Audio/Video Settings >
Capture Presets >
Click the “Duplicate…” button >
a new “Capture Preset Editor” window will open >
Change the “Name:” field to DV NTSC 48 kHz CH 3&4 (so you’ll be able to tell it apart from the “normal” setting.)
Under QuickTime Audio Settings >
Input: Second 2 Channels >
Click “OK”

Now, try a capture. If the audio is on CH 3&4, you’ll get it into FCP.

Remember to put your “normal” settings back (to “First 2 Channels”) after you captured CH 3&4 tracks.

Are you saying the button does not WORK?

“Invert” is a very basic function.

It chooses to select either the area INSIDE the matte area… OR OUTSIDE the matte area.

That’s all its for.

But if the button simply doesn’t WORK, try trashing the FCP preferences.

The actual project NEVER “self-saves.” FCP only auto-saves to the Autosave Vault.

Its good practice to “constantly” hit “apple-s” during an edit session so that YOU are saving the actual project frequently.
