iTunes files are designed not to play in professional editing software.
There are very few copyrighted songs that are legal to use in any edited project.
“Royalty-Free” or “Buy-Out” music libraries are designed for this purpose.
You can check ebay, Google or here are a few you can look at.

There is actually no reason that this “must” happen (and in years of editing with FCP, 32k and 48k, it has NEVER happened to me, not even once.)
The sample rate is based in SECONDS, regardless of the number of individual samples PER second.
So “sync” should not automatically “slip” as long as the sample-rate per second remains consistent.
Sync slippage COULD occur even in 48 kHz files if the camera is not “solid” in its audio sample rate.
But there are users who DO experience this, and capturing in approx. 10 minute “segments” will most-times solve the issue.

The audio is, by default, intentionally MUTED to the Mac’s speaker output during Log and Capture.
So you should normally monitor the audio directly from the camcorder or deck you are using to capture. (It is the preferred method.)
CAUTION:
Many people have reported that noise or “pops” appear in the captured clips if the Mac’s internal audio is left on WHILE capturing… so may want to choose “Off During Capture.”However, there is a way you can turn ON the Mac’s speaker if you really WANT to:

In FCP4x and earlier:Final Cut Pro (menu) > Audio/Video Settings… > Capture Presets (tab)
“Duplicate” the Capture Preset you are now using, when the window opens rename it (I added “MacAudioOn” to the file name).
Click open the “Advanced” button in the Audio section and turn speakers to “ON during Capture.”
The Mac speakers/audio-out will now play Audio during the preview in the Log and Capture window.

If you HAVE any problems, that should do it.
If you find you have “sync-slippage” after capture, It might be better if you capture in no longet than, say, 10-minute clips.
But you probably won’t have any “problems” anyway.

Walter, I’m with Shane on this, DPI is meaningless on video timeline.
DIMENSIONS X by X pixels are all that counts.
720 by 480 @ 72 DPI
is the same on the timeline as
720 x 480 @ 300 DPI
is the same on the timeline as
720 x 480 @ 2 DPI.This is NOT applicable to SCANNING photos, however.
With SCANNING, the DPI settings are very important.
You need to set those to a MINIMUM of 72 DPI, as you said. -
How are you connected for the capture?
Many editors import the DVD files to the HD “directly” using “ripper” software.
