Be sure to first connect the firewire cable from your Camera/DV deck to your external HD then another firewire from your external HD to your Mac.

I’m posting this solution because of all the other possible solutions online this wasn’t one I’ve ever come across. If it helps at least one person then…
    Cheers

Well, this is ONE way that SOME systems might work.

    It is not “universal”, however.

There are basically 3 ways to connect a DV device (camcorder, deck, card) and an external FW HD and the Mac.
    —————————————–
Deck > HD > Mac (or Powerbook)

    HD > Mac port A
Deck > Mac FW port B

    HD > Powerbook FW port
Deck > PMCIA FW Card > Powerbook

While you might not have seen any mention of the “daisy-chain” method (Deck > HD > Mac) it has been discussed for years, here and elsewhere.

It simply does not work on many systems.
    (If if does, its fine.)
But if doesn’t, users should try one of the other methods.
