I did read it, and i’m not stupid, and i also rent out equipment.

The actual rooms, coffee machine and monitors are more expensive than the machines nowadays.

Get an accountant and / or a spreadsheet, do the math. Stop bitching about how it ‘should be’ I myself am responsible for getting post cost down, as i am one of the first to embrace NLE’s (doing it for over 15 years now.
It’s about adjusting, not looking back. What if you had a 2 million linear bay?

Just ran a few tests.
relinking works if you assign a reelname to both the DNxHD as well as the imported AMA clips.
If you have overlapping timecodes, make sure you assing a different reelname to those clips.

Not sure how v5 relinks back. Is that on original directory name or so?
Must admit, have to test it. (but then again, i have a zillion other things to test…)

Reason to decompose is to be able to know what is used, and to shorten the transcode time it needs to happen at some point anyway.
I don’t think it will matter for the relinking…

But for the OP, just try it with the offline media taken out of the loop as you suggested. Trying that cannot hurt.

This ‘should’ work, but since all files have identical names and no timecode, it might be not so simple.
I would definitly first decompose.
Then, sift your bin in a way that you can identify what masterclip comes from what card, might help you sort out the mess.

Next time, use QTchange (download from my site) to give the clips timecode. That will be a huge time / troublesaver.

However, it only does stereo or mono.
If could make it to work on any amount of channels, but that would require a day or so of coding.
How important is it to have poly files instead of multiple Mono?

IIRC, the book is about multicam editing in general, and discusses way more than FCP workflows alone…
(I’ve talked with Mitch about a year ago about the subject, since i’ve written a Tally to EDL application…)

Have not got a copy myself yet, but then again, i’ve got a switcher and do line cuts only, since we’re Dutch thus Cheap…

On the subject, IronChef goes into production in Australia NOW.
They shoot 9 iso’s and one line cut, and about 40 iso mics.
Edit on Avid, my job was to create a way to get EVS channel mapped correctly into channel 1 to 24 in Avid.
(No budget for a ProTools setup…)

Post starts in a few hours, exciting times…
(I started my work last friday, things have not yet been tested, and i was not on site, since it’s the other side of the world…)
