  • Viewing XDCAM and HDV codecs

This is a re-post – I tried After Effects Forum with no resolve.

    Help!

I had a bunch of HD clips sent to me that used the xdv2 codec, and After Effects CS4 will not read them. I have an older version of FCP, so I’m thinking that is the problem. I don’t want to shell out the 1k for new FCP until I exhaust all other options. I also cannot view .mov files encoded with the HDV2 codec.

This is an urgent matter – thanks in advance for the quick response.

If you don’t want to spend 1K,spend a day on Google, and you find and answer.
If you’re as good as me, it will only take you half an hour.

    Pick your poison.

    Hi Tom
That’s XDCAM HD. You could use Calibrated Software’s XD Decode QuickTime component (read only, about 90 bucks) but bear in mind that it conflicts with Apple’s own AppleHDVCodec.component bundle (read and write) that comes with FCP … so if you do decide to use it then you’d probably want to pull the latter out of the /Library/QuickTime folder until your done.

    Hey Nathan,

Don’t think you’ll find this is a native format/M2T issue … the OP already noted that he “cannot view .mov files encoded with the HDV2 codec.” ie the clips in question have already been wrapped as Quicktime .MOV files.

    Cheers
    Andy
