    Trevor,

If the sound is BWF, BWF_QT merge can do it outside of FCP.
It is a part of FCPauxTC reader, but also available by itself.

    Get the demo here:

    https://www.videotoolshed.com/product/26/fcp-auxtc-reader

Mind you, the video is master, sound that is outside the video boundaries will not be pasted in. (This is a FCP limitation.)

October 12, 2010 at 2:24 pm in reply to: re-linking quicktime reference files with changed path

    Nela,
First, you’re running an old version. Current version is 1.6.8
But that won’t solve your problem.

You can move QT refs around, but it’s always a risk.
At least you need the relatie paths to be correct.

But it’s best to create new self contained files on the machine you have created the QT refs before moving them. This is just a simple flatten operation.
Or, on the BWF_QT merge application, paste in the sound as self contained. The video files get a little bit larger, but it’s quite a fast operation. The QT ref part is more for extreme fast testing of custom offset settings.

If you can’t find a flatten tool, let me know and i’ll make one.
(Other workflows might benefit from it as well.)

    October 11, 2010 at 3:57 pm in reply to: Pro Res 4444 24 – 25 problem

As the maker of QT change (and a few other apps that work with these files), i know for sure there is a problem.

    My findings so far:

Alexa’s 444 files are flagged as ‘read only’.
You must change that in order to work on that. But even reading the TC track will result in a corrupt clip.

Making a copy of the clip does not help.

What DOES help is to make a copy using QT.
If you open a read only original in QT pro, and save it under another name, you end up with a file that works as it should.
(Mind you, this is NOT a render, just a ‘save as’)

And yes, ARRI is aware of the problem.

Now in the meantime, use any QT flatten tool to batch copy your files before feeding them to any other application.
(No idea what is around nowadays, i use my own tools)

I could build in a ‘flatten’ tool in QTchange if needed, no idea how badly a fix is needed. Just contact me direct if you have an urgent need for it.
(In that case i’ll take a box of beer out of your hands…)

October 10, 2010 at 1:50 pm in reply to: Read Audio Timecode not working

    Michael,
Please kick the guy who told you this.
    LTC CANNOT be overmodulated.

Q What happens if you overmodulate a signal with all force before smoke comes out your system?
A It becomes a blockwave where all detail is vanished

    Q What is LTC?
    A A blockwave without any detail…
(well, not really according to specs, but probably the rise time is defined to let analogue equipment live longer. Has nothing to do with the actual encoded signal. Specs were written before the first man on the moon…)

As a matter of fact, my LTC reading routines amplify LTC by 5000% before decoding it, ensuring a perfect blockwave.

    Good reading here:

It works for me on 5.02 Windows…
And i must admit it has improved, it no longer needs individual Reelnames in case of TC breaks.
(well, it is usable now 🙂

I forgot if indeed a Reelname present is still required.

For Michael, why on earth would it not work with hot recordings?
LTC is volume independent… (unless you zero it out…)

October 6, 2010 at 7:18 am in reply to: Corrupt WAV file recovery

If VLC can play it, and Wave Agent can display the metadata, it must be repairable.

Wave is a very simple format. From what you describe, only a few bytes in the header are wrong (duration of the file)
    have a look here:

    https://ccrma.stanford.edu/courses/422/projects/WaveFormat/

    Look at ChunkSize and Subchunk2size.

Also, if you have a BWF, there is also a BEXT entry besides the stuff noted here.

If you can use a HEX editor, you can fix it yourself.
Or, i can do it for you, on no cure-no pay base, but it will set you back a box of beer when done…

October 6, 2010 at 7:07 am in reply to: How to use Avid batch lists to import XDcamHD?

You can’t do it with FCP only.
The transfer tool only does entire clips.
To get partial content, you need this:

    https://www.videotoolshed.com/product/40/xdcamextract-for-fcp

Or, hook up the XDcam as a deck and ingest tape style.

September 23, 2010 at 8:46 am in reply to: sync multichannel audio during a 2 camera shoot.

    Matt,
Normally you use a master TC generator, and slave all your equipment to that.
But it highly depends on the equipment used.

Now you can always use a spare channel to record the TC (it’s an audio signal) and decode it afterwards. But if you have cams with a TC input, that is not needed. (Could be needed for your sound recorder though.)
If your soundrecorder cannot slave to TC, i have software that can convert Wave files to BWF, based on the audio TC.
Same can be done for video, but that will be Quicktime based then.
No idea if you intend to use Quicktime, nor if Vegas supports Quicktime TC.

So please elaborate on the equipment used!
