February 9, 2013 at 1:41 pm in reply to: Workflow- Using Lock Box/ Jam Slate And Syncing in FCP 7eer, no.
These tools are for cases where there is common timecode.
And afaik, there is no other way to do it in FCP than as you describe. But, how is it possible there is a mismatch.
Are you sure FCP is setup correctly?
(A wrong setup can be very annoying when dealing with BWF files…)Bouke

February 8, 2013 at 11:35 am in reply to: Keeping audio timecode while converting from WAV to AIFFWave and AIFF contain the same raw audio data. There is absolute no reason not to use Wave.
Indeed Wave can hold metadata, but it is NOT timecode! The metadata is written in samples that can be calculated to timecode.
So if you have recorded at 48000 Khz,
the metadata says 48000 that corresponds with TC 00:00:01:00Now it’s up to the receiving software how to interpret the samples.
In NTSC a second is NOT 30 frames, but 29.97 in NDF.
DF tries to compensate for that in TC, but of course the frame duration / speed is the same. Now, FCP is notorious bad in interpreting the numbers.
You need to set FCP how to interpret the BWF’s, and then RESTART it.
It may happen that FCP ‘remembers’ the wrongly imported BWF’s, so you need to rename them before they get in with the right TC.
(Same goes for Premiere)It gets even worse in FCP.
Indeed you can get a drift. In theory, the wrong TC indication should have nothing to do with the playback speed / duration of the imported Wave file.
However, in the old days you could flag a sound file a bit different, as people would shoot 23.976 to finalize at 24 for film.
Now FCP tries to be smart for you and use this info.
This can drive a man crazy…Bouke

February 8, 2013 at 11:24 am in reply to: Workflow- Using Lock Box/ Jam Slate And Syncing in FCP 7You could use my BWF_QT merge.
It can insert the sound into the QT with a custom offset.

The F3 has TC in/out, but the HVX200 has no tc options.
You could put the TC out from the F3 on one of the audio channels of the 200.
(remember, TC input / output is in fact an audio signal, relative low frequency)
Test if the F3 has continuous TC output, if not, you must start the F3 before the 200!Depending on the NLE, you can decode the LTC and you’ve got common TC.

This is ‘normal’ behaviour.
Direct out is not even needed.
Track one ends on track one etc.
So a mixdown is the way to go before the export.
(If indeed you want to retain your normal mix)hth,

You don’t
Normally before going to CC you strip all effects.
Makes sense, if you have a fade to white on a clip that needs tons of cc, you won’t end up with white…

well, there is a little known trick.
Inside the Sony package is a small app. (forgot the name, mac is down at the moment, but you’ll find it.)
If you make a shortcut, and drag your (Properly formatted of course) clips on it, Sony will do the rest.
(I guess it will make seperate clips, otherwise script it)hth,

Avid does not really care about aspect ratio. It only renders titles / certain wipes in the correct aspect ratio if you set it.
So, you’re bringing in your stuff at original pixel size, and you need to set the correct scaling / cropping / aspect ration yourself.
There are presets in the effect palette to do so, so no worries there.
(but since it’s HD, you might want to customize the downscaling / letterboxing a bit by reframing.)hth,

You cannot genlock these cams, but you can record TC on an audio track.
(LTC is an audio signal, make sure you get the right attenuation, as it is LOUD normally)
So you need at least a couple of seconds of TC at the start of each shot.
This can be done using a Mp3 player or iphone / pod with Jumpstart.
If you have an Avid, it can read the TC from the audio track.
Otherwise you need my FCPauxTC reader (don’t let the name fool you, it works for any NLE)hth,

Not to my knowledge, but what are you trying to do?
If you want to sync them, put timecode on one of the audio tracks.
(that’s the most speedy way of working.)hth,
