The duration of VLC might be meaningless.
    What are you feeding VLC?

To know if you can recover it, you need to calculate the duration based on file size…

    Expensive is very relative.
Concidering it’s 6 hours of material, if it’s all spoken text that might end up to being a week of work. (Depending on quality.)

There is a huge difference between transcription and subtittling.
Normally a transcriber inserts TC in a text file every now and then.

A subtitle needs an in and outpoint.

My subtitle tool is used by a national broadcaster who also uses it for this type of work. It’s not cheap, but it does the job, and it does it fast. It does need a bit of learning, but that will pay off very soon.
Download Subbits from my site, the demo is free and fully functional (althoug it only lets you save 8 titles.)

    Janis,
Since I’m the developer of BWF_QT merge, what does not work?
Do note, there was some Alexa firmware that made the files write protected, so you could not insert in them.
But that was a couple of years ago.

Do mail me direct if you like, you’re entitled to support.

  • I highly suspect your audio is BWF, and FCP has a very bad track record in sync and BWF.
    (Google on it.)

Try exporting your sound as a QT audio only from QT pro, and import that.
Set the TC (Either with qt change or inside FCP) to what it should be, and try again.

  • Hi Matt,
AFAIK, a XML for Premiere is for an entire project, not just a sequence.
You say you don’t get a sequence?

My trick is to use an old fashioned EDL, with clip names (named after the png’s).
That also requires re-linking, but it works.
Perhaps your translator can give you an EDL?

(I can send you an example if you like, mail me direct if you need one.)

  • A lot of people use QTchange for this.

    Eeh Luke,
    You’re referring to QTchange?
If so, it ‘should’ work. But do note, deleting tracks DISABLES them.
(since there is no new clip generated, there is only a small change in the metadata of the file.)

It can’t be a version problem afaik (but you can always download the latest demo, and that’s probably a free upgrade).

One thing to check, you do have read/write persmissions on the files?

QTchange has an Increase/Decrease function, just as you probably need…
Check it out, the free demo will give you enough info if it will work for you or not!

A second is a second both in Pal and in NTSC, and in film.

Your problem is a FCP bug, not a problem of timing nor the recorder.

This is probably a FCP error, as the file is a BWF file and FCP is notirious bad with those.

Export it any way you can (QT pro, any sound editor) to plain Wave or AIFF, and import it in FCP again. (Make sure it has another name).
Chances are big your problems go away.
