  • importing subtitle XML doesn’t generate a timeline

Posted by Matt Brodie on June 5, 2015 at 6:05 pm

    Greetings all,
I’m trying to add subtitles to a project I just finished. The subtitle company has provided a set of PNGs and an XML file. I have a lot of experience importing XMLs from DaVinci Resolve round trips, so I expected to drag and drop the xml into premiere, it would generate a timeline and then ask me to relink the PNG files and all would be well. It asks me where the PNGs are as expected, but then I end up with a bin full of PNGs and no timeline. Looking at the text in the XML I see it has timecode information etc.

Is there a header here that I can add or an xml converter I need or something?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi Matt,
AFAIK, a XML for Premiere is for an entire project, not just a sequence.
You say you don’t get a sequence?

My trick is to use an old fashioned EDL, with clip names (named after the png’s).
That also requires re-linking, but it works.
Perhaps your translator can give you an EDL?

(I can send you an example if you like, mail me direct if you need one.)

    hth,

    Bouke
