You could also export as .ALE, and modify that in a text editor.
Easier way to do this, is to get a copy of ALE cleaner from my site, and use that. If you have to redig a sequence, it will significantly speed up the batch capture process.

besides running a macro (you can download one from my site, free version works fine) you could export an example to XML, and use a text editor to swap out the things that need to change.

Looks difficult in the beginning, but if you study it a little, things start to make sense (start with VERY simple sequences untill you get the hang of it)

If you do so, you can save TONS of work.

Of course you can always hire a specialist to help you, or make a custom scripting application.
Andreas Kiel from Spherico is a XML god, and he does custom work.

No problems under Bootcamp, but sadly no mojo nor adrenaline.
If you have a huge monitor to work on, and a second one as your ‘client’ monitor in FSP it’s fine.

There is no way AVID can play back a reference movie.
All that it plays back MUST be in a correct format and reside in the avid mediafolders.
You can speed up things by rendering your qt assets to the desired avid codec, so you get a ‘fast import’, meaning it only copies the file instead of transcoding.
But it will copy or transcode, always.

Or ignore the error message and dig away.
Avid won’t be frame accurate anyways, if you ingest entire tapes. (avid is not able to detect very small TC jumps on camera start/stop)

So when you online, have a mixdown of your offline on top of the redigitized shots, put a wipe on it and check on motion parts. If you redig with 12 frames handles, you can then slip the online into place without too muich hassle.
(Recently did this on a 62 minute doc, took about 4 hours to ingest the online and check/slip everything).

But having a bb generator is better, and will kill the annoying message. Will set you back some 150 bucks, but if you have the budget to do offline/online, you might as well have your act together.

Just for this trouble there IS a solution!

Not only will it auto subclip your reel, you don’t even have to type in the AUX TC!!!

Just record LTC on one of the channels and have AUX TC reader do the rest. It will read the LTC TC, and will make subclips for you. (LTC is an audio timecode format, the funny beeps you hear coming out the “timecode” output of a deck when connected to an amp)

Workflow for a music video:
You probably play back the song a zillion times while shooting. Make a CD (or whatever playback system you want), and put the song on channel 1, and LTC on channel 2
(just record LTC from a deck, or ask nice and i’ll prepare a clip for you.)

Shoot in Rec Run or Free run, whatever you like. (I prefer Rec run for easier ingesting)

Digitize all your clips, ingest entire reels if you like.

Next, export an XML from your bin, and feed that to AUX TC reader. It will analyze your clips, and give you an XML containing all the subclips WITH CORRECT AUX TC!

FCP will set aux TC per reel, but this handy application will make new QT’s, (either self contained or reference files) per subclip, thus making it possible to have custom AUX tc per subclip (or shot, or whatever you want to call it)

Now you got a bin with all your shots, with normal Tc if you ever need to re-digitize, but with AUX TC for fast syncing multiple takes to the soundtrack.

This is also a handy tool if you shoot multicam. (Like a concert or so.) Broadcast LTC, record that on one channel on each cam, and it is VERY easy to sync all your cameras.

(if you ever had to edit a concert video from 4 unsynced cameras, and had to sync a specific part of the drummer without even knowing wich song it belongs to, you know you need this.)

No experience, but i’m currently programming a software multicam recorder.

It contains of one master application that can control multiple recorders over a network.
The recorders can be any computer, as long as they have a capture device installed that comes with a VDIG
(so any standard mac can ingest over Firewire without any installation of extra software)
It supports all resolutions/codecs, but of course your recording CPU’s have to be capable…

Next to that, i’ve developed an application that tracks tally signals from a switcher, so if you record all cameras ISO, you can have a finished multicam sequence two minutes after you’ve stopped capturing, ready for finetuning.
