simple answer. Buy the AJA Kona 2, the AJA K-Box for the Kona 2, the AJA I/O (the full version), and make sure that you own a color black generator (like a Horita or a Sigma), a mixer and some decent speakers. Then – you in buziness !

Why your boss would simply not consider the Blackmagic Decklink Extreme, which offers everything you are looking for, for about $895 – is beyond me. As I type this reply, the Decklink Extreme is the advertising banner directly below me on Creative Cow. Start this morning right – walk into your bosses office, and say “hey stupid ………”

are you sure you chose S-Video input in the Audio/Video Settings/Capture Presets ?
for sanity reasons, simply close FCP, and go into the AJA I/O control panel, and select the S-Video input, to make sure that the I/O is doing it’s thing, and passing the S-Video signal thru the IO box.

these are great questions, and if you have ever used a Highpoint SATA card, you might already know the disappointing answers. Any 8 port SATA configuration (from ProMax, etc.) will have the same specs.

first, I hope you are mistaken about the Kona SD – you DID mean the Kona 2 – right? But if you DID mean the Kona SD – the Kona SD will go into Slot 2 or 3 and the UL4D will go into Slot 4. You will not get U320 performance with your older U160 HUGE Chassis (but you would love it if you owned a wonderful U320-RX, or even the single buss U320).
You will be VERY HAPPY if you buy the Kona 2 for this system.

Wtih all due respect, you people are all crazy. ANY LCD MONITOR sucks with standard definition video. I have tried the Blackmagic HD Link and the AJA HDP on the Apple 23″ Cinema Display, the Sony SDM-P234b, the Dell 2405FPW, and the HP 2335 (the monitor that AVID uses for the AVID DS demos), and for STANDARD DEF – the image quality is terrible on ALL OF THEM. I have also recently had the dis-pleasure of using the Sony LUMA LDM-232, and the extra horrible Sony LDM-1410 in a cheap NTSC dubbing system. The LDM-232 looks teriffic in Hi Def but horrible for standard def, and the LDM-1410 is a complete joke (640×480 resolution) – and this is Sony’s new “lo end” pro monitor. Useless – you would be better off with a cheap TV at Circuit City.
With all of that said, the Blackmagic HD Link (and amazing product) works very nicely in HI DEF with the Dell 2405FPW, but ain’t gonna make any miracles in the DVI port with Standard Def video – and this applies to the Apple Cinema, and every other monitor I mentioned as well.
But that’s just my opinion. So what do you do for a standard def monitor, now that you can’t get the Sony PVM-20L5/1 ??? Don’t ask me.

Facilis is a wonderful company – the ex AVID LanShare guys run Facilis.
I have never used a Terrablock on a FCP system, but I bet it works.
I just have no background with it on an FCP system.Remember (to my knowlege, and I COULD BE WRONG) – it’s RAID 1, not RAID 5, so be prepared to buy a lot of storage.

no sir – If you have one of the pins missing from the cable (only 5 pins are actually used – 2 for transmit, 2 for receive (both balanced pairs) and one ground – you get flakey performance – but that is because a solder connection became bad – not because of the cable legnth.
Just like audio and video – you must have a working cable, with all 5 pins working from pin to pin, but a working cable does not change edit frame offset depending on it’s legnth.
