  • BlackMagic MultiBridge + AJA Kona LHe?

Excuse me for being a complete newbie. Just wanted to verify this before my boss spends massive wads of cash on hardware. He likes the idea of hooking up the SDI in and out from the Kona card to a BlackMagic multibridge so he not only has SDI options, but also analog for our beta deck. Theohretically, this setup has all the ports he needs for the workflow he wants, with the card outputting SDI to the multibridge, as well as component out to a monitor. Will our custom mixing and matching of components work fromt these two companies, or must he have a Decklink in order to configure or run the Multibridge?

    Thanks very much.

Why your boss would simply not consider the Blackmagic Decklink Extreme, which offers everything you are looking for, for about $895 – is beyond me. As I type this reply, the Decklink Extreme is the advertising banner directly below me on Creative Cow. Start this morning right – walk into your bosses office, and say “hey stupid ………”

As of right now, DeckLink does not offer a capture card that is both PCI Express AND HD compatible. My boss currently wants to invest in HD at the card level, but not at the breakout box level, yet. Thus, this combination offers the ability to grow but maintains current compatibility…. hopefully.

Anybody care to answer my original question as posted?

I dont think the BMD HD PCIe cards are that far away – all the posts from Blackmagic staff seem to indicate an imminent release….how urgent is your purchase? sounds like new things could be announced within the month, if you can hold out for that.

What is wrong with you people! A simple questions has been asked. Maybe if you put it this way “Will the Multibridge work with any SDI I/O card, i.e. Decklink, AJA, Digital Voodoo/Blue Fish, Aurora etc. etc.?” it won’t hurt there feelings about you wanting to buy a different manufacturers card!

I have a client running an AJA Kona2 with a Mutibridge and all seems to be fine, if thats any help?

I just wish they’d hurry up and sort out the Multibridge Studio, then we wouldn’t have these problems. I guess next NAB we’ll hear something?

Yes, thank you. That is helpful. I’m sorry I didn’t phrase my question correctly, and didn’t mean to offend anyone (especially the makers of all these fine products 😀 )… I wasn’t even quite sure which forum to post in, considering the mixing and matching nature of the question.

Once again, thnks for helping. 🙂

the kona LHe has both analog and sdi input as well as analog and sdi output. the kona 2 has analog output. why do you need to put a multibridge into the mix?

Unclear question. Why put the Multibridge with LHe or Kona2? I would have thought it would be obvious with the Kona2, but I agree, I can’t see its use with the LHe which has analogue I/O?

The Mutlibridge is acting as a main hub for our two computer shop. Two Macs, two broadcast monitors, one beta deck, and one DVD/VHS recorder. And it will all be hooked together.
