Jeremy is correct here. You have purchased wonderful, excellent speakers. I love KRK’s. They have ANALOG audio inputs. You do not need different speakers – you need an AJA K3-Box ($299) for your Kona 3, and a little audio mixer (just like Jeremy said) to act as a little monitoring device. You can also take the output of your MAC G5, and the output of your VTR’s, and stick these into the mixer, so you can hear the audio outputs of these devices as well. Don’t change your speakers, just get a K3 Box and a little mixer, and you are done.bob Zelin

I have installed countless Pinnacle CineWave systems, and EVERY DAMN ONE OF THEM had an audio mixer on it. There is no way to route, amplify, and attenuate all these different analog sources (from +4 to -10 dBu) without a bunch of balancing amps (which just cost too much money) or a CHEAP MIXER.
Many people use inexpensive Behringer mixers that range from $50 to $299, which work teriffic for this application. You can also get more expensive mixers from companies like Mackie, Soundcraft, Yamaha, Allen Heath, and so many others. You can contact your dealer, order mail order, or just go to your local music store – mixers are EVERYWHERE – and YOU NEED ONE. This will resolve all of your problems, and had you bought one for your Pinnacle CineWave system (like everyone else did) – you could still be using the SAME MIXER – becuase unlike these Mac computers, the mixers DONT GET OUTDATED and are very useful, no matter what comes out.I am VERY SURPRISED that you are saying that your signal is TOO HOT. The output of the Mini DV and the Hi8 mm are both -10dBu, and the AJA I/O expects to see a +4dBu signal, so your “zero level” should be 14db TOO LOW – not high ? If you are trying to layback to your Mini DV, or Hi 8, THEN the signal will be TOO HOT going into these pieces of equipment.
Your Pinnacle CineWave Break Out Box had XLR connectors on it, just like the AJA I/O does. The output of the AJA I/O is no different than the Pinnacle CineWave. +4dBu.
Buy a mixer (or get some line amps).

nope – there are many ways. You can use the iLink to RS422 adaptor from Addenda (and others) – about $148 – and then take the analog component output into your I/O or I/O LA – and if you want HD HDV, go directly into
a Kona LH or LHe. Or use an AJA HD10A if you want to go into a Kona 2 or 3.Bob Zelin

There is probably a better answer than this, but if you use the Kona 3 and HDV, and use the AJA HD10A to ingest the analog HD signal to HD-SDI (using the converter), you simply do a 8 or 10 bit uncompressed 1080i project (not HDV), and this will absolutely spit right out to an HD Cam VTR. Like I said, there is probabaly a better workflow answer, as an HDV Project will take up less storage than an uncompressed HD project.

You have a $60,000 Sony HDW-M2000 VTR, and what must be a very expensive FCP system with a G5, a Kona LHe, a large storage array to capture uncompressed HD, an expensive monitor that can display an 1080i HD signal – and you cannot afford $289 for a Horita BSG-50 black generator to resolve your problems ?

I never did a comparison. Obviously, Panasonic has no direct ties with AJA, and they are promoting the HD10A in their new HDX-200 flyer. I assume this must mean that this is the way Panasonic likes it done. I am sure that the Miranda and Convergent Design are fine products – but why bother, when you know that the AJA works great.

sure – play back your HD Cam tapes in a VTR like a Sony JH-3 or Sony HDW-F500 that has 2:3 pulldown (so you are going in at 59.94, not 23.98), and capture at DVCProHD. It will work great (in real time !).

did you go into easy setup, and choose a setup like AJA Pro I/O SDI uncompressed 8 bit ? If you do nothing, it defaults to DV input.
