Hi all. Starting my first HDV project, and I have a question regarding the VCR. Am I correct that the only way to output with timecode from the deck to my system is through iLink?

nope – there are many ways. You can use the iLink to RS422 adaptor from Addenda (and others) – about $148 – and then take the analog component output into your I/O or I/O LA – and if you want HD HDV, go directly into
a Kona LH or LHe. Or use an AJA HD10A if you want to go into a Kona 2 or 3.Bob Zelin
