Yeah i got so many coasters i should open a retaurant supply company 🙂
its all about intelace vs progressive
i am getting artifacts which are not showing up until i see the video on an ntsc monitor
strobing and such. and i don’t know exactly where they are coming from
I export an 8 bit uncomp qt out of fcp and it looks fine
i take it into compressor and suddenly it gets strobe-y, like its being de interlaced. I am sure if i wrap my head around it i can figure it out, but it would be nice to watch my dvd file on an ntsc monitor.
anyway, i may try squeezing it to see if its any better
thanx again

Hey,we have that lite on and now i remember how we got firewire out of FCP into the Lite-On
we used a camera as a “transcoder”, feeding the camera FW and feeding the
lite on s video out of the camera. it worked fine.BTW the lite on as well as most if not all consumer dvd recorders does not have component in, only component out, no doubt to keep people from making component cpoies of dvd’s
hope this helps

ricker….dude
theres a couple o plugins as well as some stand alone things out ther on the interweb
there are 2 flash video codecs i have seen. macromedia has one (duh) and ON2 which is called VP6
we were using the VP6 codec in squeeze, so i went to the On2 website http://www.on2.com and they have a 150 US plug in called flix exporter that works w combustion, ae, compressor etc
there is a macromedia flv codec you can acces out of fcp by choosing export to quicktime conversion
of course it doesnt have has many variables as the On2, but ya get whatcha pay fer
(these things are really driven by marketing geeks. i have yet to see something that i can use in FCP, QT, and Compressor! Its like I need a separate thing for each)
hope this helps

Thanks!yep! used em alllllll up! grew myself 2 extra fingers too! 🙂
actually, i wanted to move the track select key from t to somewhere else, cuz the system i am used to uses t for trim.
guess i’ll have to find some other way…
BTW i once found some info in the interweb about a keyboard developed by MIT in the early days of darpanet. In addition to the qwerty keys and numbers, it had NINE modifiers! and maybe even function keys as well

i have a macromedia component (sic) so i can do flash exports via qt, and i assume i can do em out of FCP (maybe not?)
but i know i cant do em out of compressor. the macromedia component doesnt show up
on the interweb i found a plug in for compressor called flix exporter made by On2, the guys who make the VP6 codec. I just wasnt sure if there was anything that came w compressor
(so does this mean codecs are now gonna have the names of defunct videtape machines? boy cant wait for the AVR 1000, or even the TPR 10!!)

we have 3 lite ons i think its become the one off dvd burner of choice among editors
there is a firewire in, but its only good for dubbing from a camera
we feed it s video and analog sound. we tried feeding it via firewire and it was squirrely, but that was probably us as it was when we first got FCP
even then, to use firewire you have to have a DV timeline, and you have to come out firewire DV (that may be obvious)
it has been very reliable. the only caveat is the one we have cannot make a straight autoplay. the discs always have a menu even if there is only one clip, but that may be our model
its got a interface called “the guider” which makes it real simple to operate, so you can get yer moms to help you make discs, or your dog, or a monkey, or even a film student intern (HAHAHAHAH)
i beleive we had our best luck with verbatim -R and Ritek -R
hope this helps

man i must be going nuts
i just tried to recreate this issue, and now i cant get it to happen!
now when i mark a clip my outpoint is AFTER the dissolve, not before!
and as eric said, i have to joh back 2 frames from the start of the transition to succesfully overwrite the outgoing shot, and the remnant video is clearly visible
I think one of the problems with FCP is that its on a mac, and therefore subject to the oddities inherent in the apple os, hence the need to trash prefs etc i say this cuz i bet restarting fcp varied the circumstances in ways i cannot tell at this time
when i can succesfully recreate the issue AND find out why i cant now i will repost
until then, thanx for the help.

lets make sure we are talking about the same thing. cuz i get this invisible frame with picons on
if i use x to mark my clip i get the error message “this edit cannot be done becasue a transition would be splt yahda yahda yahda..”
so i apple arrow my cursor to the marked out point, and jog back one frame. or i shift o my cursor to the marked outpoint and jog back one frame and re mark
i then use f10 to overwrite a new shot. Now my dissolve is still there but its from the wrong frame ie its from the previous shot
sooooo i delet my transition
NOW here is waht i see as the issue: the one frame i had left over from the previous shot is not visible. it appears as if my new shot1 and my shot2 butt together clean. even if i zoom my timeline way in i still only see 2 shots
in order to make my invisible frame visible, i have to drag away the head of my shot2, or delete my shot2 then try to drag out the tail of my shot1. when i drag out the tail of my shot1, am actully draggin out the tail of the original shot1 NOT the tail of the overwrite.
ok? ok!
and thanx for chiming in, i really do know what i am doing, and i would rather be on something else, im just trying to get by.
we edit*ors have to stick together, as some of these fcp folks have never used edit* and do not not what a real editor works like. thats not a dig or a burn, its just fact
