there is a separate program called DVD studio Pro that has some prem made DVD menu templates. It bundled with Final Cut 6, and the bundle is called Final Cut Studio 2

Final Cut is primarily for editing, some sound mixing, some motion effects. So apple has bundled several other programs to add extended capabilites, like animated type and sound mixing

dont “re media manage to back to HD” just copy your timeline over to the HD edit system, and reconnect the timeline media

then copy all the clips from the dv timeline to an HD timeline so the source media and timeline match

what i do is i use multiclip to get my first cut down, usually pretty tight. but then its faster for me to back load clips and gang em, or just look at cameras straight.

soooo you would do all your multiclip editing at dv, get it pretty locked up, then collapse your clips, reconnect to HD, and any more ediitng just do straight (or make new multiclips)

at least that should work better than 10 percent

murphys law: i cant get it to happen. right now no matter where i drag my transition from, when i copy drag it along the timeline it copys correctly

maybe it is another of those corrupt preference issues. Try trashing your prefs and see if it works better

FWIW i never drag transitions from the browser to the timeline unless its a unique one, like a wipe. I always use a keyboard shortcut for default transition.

But i also copy drag transitions along the timeline, especailly if they are specific duration wipes and so on (often used to bring on graphics and lower thirds) I have seen this shortening effect duration from whatever it was to one frame, and if i double clicked on the transition and opened it in the viewer, or even tried to drag it out, i could not change the duration.

I thought it was one of those corrupt preference file issues, I remeber fixing it by copying and pasting the whole clip, transsitions and all, then just replacing the content of the clip. probably not the answert you are looking for, but it helped me

do you mean apply as in make default transition ie command + T ?

or apply as in drag and drop from favorites to timeline?

one thing i was experinceing was that i would command + T a default 20 frame dissolve and it would apply with a 1 frame duration. However i dont remeber if it was a ‘favorite” transition or one from the effects list

also, does it have to be the favorites folder under effects tab? One thing i have tried to get in the habit of is making a favorite effects folder in my project, so if i have to trash prefs, i dont lose those custom 22 frame dissolves that my clients HAVE to have! 🙂

ooooh maybe they will finally announce Final Cut server!! Or that the next release will fix ALL the bugs!

all kidding aside, its probably got something to do with hardware, like the mac you are going to need to run the next version of FCP. still I am curious

BTW after going to that page, i saw an article about apples techs developing an OLED keyboard. DAted back in march. what about that one thats already out there for an arm and a leg? Optimus? Optimum? Optimistic? something like that.

aaahhhh one of my favorite bugs!

I just ran into this again this morning!

it means either your in point or out point on your timeline is on a transition. ie you have marked in just before a dissolve, wipe, or fade.

you need to set your in at least 15 frames prior and set your out 15 frames after any transitions.

even upgrading to FCS2 wont help, as its not been addressed.

(i honestly think that apple took the name seriously, final CUT, cuz it always acts goofy with transitions)

Caveat Emptor! (let the buyer beware!)

Even though that sounds really paranoid, its got truthiness

I would suggest, however, instead of going crazy trying to double guess any consultant/intergrator/installer, get references of their work, and ask specifically for stuations that resemble yours ie a small boutique.

it sounds like you have a precise idea what you want to have built, just get it on paper.

The educated consumer you want to be is the one who asks about prior work, speaks with previous clients, and asks around. there arent that many people or companys taht do this, but rest assured the bad ones dont last long.

We have a very similar situation to waht you are looking for. Common machine room, 2 edit suites, analog and digital vtr’s I even had all my computers and hard drives in there as well, which really helped with noise. We tried to save money and do all the wiring and such ourselves. it took a long time, and i couldn”t edit while doing it.

things to consider are: the heat load of the machine room, having a separate AC unit just for the machine room is not all that far fetched. also room around the racks and gear for access to the wiring. Isolated ground wiring, or at least all the wiring on the same leg of your building power, power conditioners and or ups. sound proofing, shelf space, lighting, (there is a lot of stuff to think about even before you put up racks!)

I guess its me calling it bs, cuz i look at all this post D1/digibeta era video , both HD and SD, in a different light.

For years we in NTSC had to deal with the oddities of it: 3;2 pulldown, interlace, 59.97 NOT 60.

and when the ATSC started looking around I and many of my colleagues saw it as a chance to Fix TV! make it Better! Make it easier to work with!,

But Nooooo, we had to let the market decide! we had to screw up TV EVEN MORE!!!

and yeah, having different formats for different purposes is ok, just why so freakin many?
