  • “The deck may be unable to perform this edit…” message during Edit To Tape

    Hi,

On two FCP 5.1 systems, when we do an Edit-to-Tape using In/Out points, we get the following message when we try to do an insert edit :

“The deck may be unable to perform this edit operation since the edit duration is only one frame.”

We have a valid IN and OUT point in the timeline and I have specified an IN point in the Edit-to-Tape window. Sometimes specifying a different IN/OUT point in the timeline will be ok but it very inconsistent.

Any idea what might be the problem ?

Will updating to FCP 5.1.4 fix this problem ?

aaahhhh one of my favorite bugs!

I just ran into this again this morning!

it means either your in point or out point on your timeline is on a transition. ie you have marked in just before a dissolve, wipe, or fade.

you need to set your in at least 15 frames prior and set your out 15 frames after any transitions.

even upgrading to FCS2 wont help, as its not been addressed.

(i honestly think that apple took the name seriously, final CUT, cuz it always acts goofy with transitions)

rant aside, i hope this helps
