Yeah, Peter you are right, slow panning is OK but fast not a goer unless you use the New Canon f2.8 EF IS is designed and can be set for both horizontal and vertical panning @ $2,250, just not worth it.

Hi Patrick, 24fps is the 35mm movie speed as you know and really the quality for Vimeo and You tube at any speed is not that impressive, the jerkiness may be caused by the shutter speed in the 7D or the slowness of the pixels caused by the H.264 mov 1920 x 1080p compression .The lens in this camera may be the cause of the issue, not as good as EF IS 35mm

I have experimented with all speeds and have found 1/50 sec, like Peter may be tad better.

Very smooth panning is the only way to go, I do not get jerkiness any more. I use a Canon EF 28-135 mm IS Lens hand held without any support and it is perfect, in any case you can remove any issue in Premiere Pro CS6 or 5.5.2 with Germany’s ProDad’s Mercalli V2 Pro Stabilizer that is pure magic. It has a “rolling Shutter Compensation” Control which illiminates the jerkiness or jello effect of the shutter in these cameras.

    Happy panning……………

If you downloaded the trial it may have been corrupted, try again. I agree with you on David Lean, Dr Zhivago, perhaps.

Been using Sony Vegas PLATINUM 11 for 6 months mainly for stablizer, try Build 322, trialed 11 Pro, did everything I asked of it , but, no better than sibling. but, I was a Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5.1 user now CS5.5.2 everything runs fine, but, very impressed with H.264mov files from our Canon 5D Mark II running in Sony, perhaps faster than CS5.5.2 but, interface not as good, perhaps I have got use to Adobe.

    Angelo may be right ?

    Yes well,

This does not happen with latest updates to Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 11 and using the a GPU accelerated Video Card.(This program is very similar to Pro 11 However, try setting Full resolution to BEST and No Motion Blur. The 11 version handles H.264 mov at 1920 x 1080p extremely well , maybe faster than Premiere Pro CS5.5.2 but, I am 25 fps PAL ?

Good luck, download trial upgrade if you can

  • Used Canon FD Lens L series 35-70mm but is heavy and now use IS 28-135mm not L for HD video, I cannot tell difference in performance, also f1.2 L but you do not need that with a 5D mark II as the ISO range is upwards of 2500.
The 28-135 f 5.6 IS is about $750 and is very versatile, used it for 3 years , stunning image quality. Hope the lens work out as the lens adaptor would have to be good.

But, why would you want to go from Panasonic when their set up is Leica and it too is very good, I have a Panasonic GS500 3ccd video, very good SD
