If you don’t need it to show the frame count, in other words just an HH:MM:SS format for the purposes of your production, I would shoot a close-up video of an ordinary kitchen timer masked against a green background, use the pan/crop tool and key it over your other video. If you can find something that’s backlit with a blue light, that’s even better. You could invert the video (make it negative) if that works.
If you DO need a HH:MM:SS:FF format AND your camera creates timecode on screen, cap the lens, hit record and capture the “s” or composite video output to your computer (or use FireWire out if your camera/computer are so inclined) and do the same thing in post.
Hope that gives you some ideas

Interesting about the .TIF files. I’ve brought in a couple into my current project for the Forest Service, but only after modifying them in Photoshop and saving them in PSD format before importing. I have a completely different box handling my graphics programs for the very reason of program interaction. I also don’t keep my video and sound editors online except under very controlled conditions for driver updates.
This may be related — this morning when I launched Vegas from the desktop **BOOM** XP restarted. This has happened at random several times over the months but never anything I could repeat at will.
It is a pain because I use a Western Digital 1TB MyBook for archive storage and XP-Pro refuses to boot when it’s connected to either FireWire or USB. Rather than tear out my hair trying to figure that one out, I simply unmount it before shutting down for the night. I am working a couple of deadlines and don’t want to spend the whole day troubleshooting THAT particular problem…it’s not unlike my old 1960 Plymouth Valiant that got me to High School…Just made sure I didn’t have to use reverse very often… 😛

No problem, it’s the point of this forum.. 🙂 I had to figure this one out when I switched over to using a Sennheiser MKE-300 shotgun on my camcorder. Since it’s a mini-mono output, it will record onto the left channel only. Vegas makes that easy to deal with.

Closest that you can get is an old radio-station trick back in the stone age when the Otari MX-5050 was king. (still own 2 of em!)
Not sure how to do this in the digital world since I don’t have my Audition computer handy at the moment.
With full-track tape, we would make a dub with a tiny bit of slap-back echo (I would imagine a very small amount of reverb with a long decay would do it), then physically flip the reels over and dub it again, applying echo in reverse (Pre-Verb) I THINK that most audio NLE’s can do a pre-verb type FX. The result is a rather “ghostly/dreamy” effect, and if overlaid with a bit of background noise you might get lucky.If that gets too deep, try having someone the same gender/age range lip-synch the audio track and substitute it. To make it work, make a loop of your ambient room noise with no dialogue and mix it with your new audio.

Fairly simple solution. Right-click on the audio portion. On the drop-down menu, look for where it says “Channels”. Select “Right Only” Your audio track will change to mono in the display, but it will render on both L/R in your final mix.

thanks for the tip, I’ll check that when I start editing this next project. Right now I’m finishing up one using Premiere Elements (APE?) so the transition may be a bit of a challenge.
