The best thing to do for editing is to get the standard drive that comes with the laptop and get a SATA Express card and add external SATA II harddrives.

JVC 720P camcorders can be used for HDV in Europe, but there are no 576 PAL functions on them

Not all functions are programed for more than one processor and/or Hyperthreading, I wish Adobe would have this listed on their website, like a list of what benifits from dual processors or hyperthreading where it can be found without pulling teeth, I used to have a list for Prem6.5 and AFX.

Some of the processors are being released now, there are a few desktop MoBos on the market now with the proper chipsets, more to follow, the laptops are usually two weeks to a month behind.

Did you check your video on the timeline for dropouts, if there are none you maybe getting some GOP dropouts on the record back to tape, are you standard quality DV tapes or higher quality?

[Tim Bond] “i’ve plugged in my DV camera (Canon MV10 for playback) Windows sees it and up it pops in My Computer. Pro doesn’t – Camera offline in settings window. Tried capturing with Win Movie Maker and i get 1 and a half minutes in and it freezes. If i stop and try again it says Camera not attached and the Camera has disappeared from My Computer.”

There probably isn’t a problem with the software and operating system, the Canon MV10 camcorder is a PAL camcorder with DV out capability only, there probably isn’t any device control because of this as there isn’t any two communications, try selecting PAL – Canon – Standard in Device Control in Preferences or in the settins menu in the Capture window(F5), With the capture window(F5) selected, start playing the tape manually in the camcorder’s VCR mode and see if video appears in the Capture window, if so try a manual capture by hitting record while video is playing.

    >the lengths that people will go to avoid getting better quality and faster editing speeds.< Hi Steven: I agree the cineform is a good app, but the extra horsepower payw off in other places, Particularly if you are using something like AFX, Boris and/or 3D apps, also the dual core processors tend to run cooler than the P-IVs

    >one question when is the core duo2 coming out?< The high end ones are hitting the market already, Laptop makers like Dell should have models pretty soon, I'm glad I procrastinated on getting a new one, I feel sorry for the Mac people who waited a long time for Apple to get a new higher powered laptop out and just bought the new Mactels and they are second best again.
