  • HDV movie stutters on tape playback?

Just finished editing some really nice HDV video I shot in Tahiti. Final movie looks great on preview, but when I ‘export to tape,’ it will render it and record onto the tape, but it has about 5 pauses of a second or 2 throughout a 20 minute video. Not a huge problem, but it’s distracting every 5 minutes or so to see it hang up for a second. I rendered it twice and recorded to tape, and it paused in different places the second time, so I know it’s not the rendered movie. Any suggestions?

Also, with HDV, do you have to render the movie each time you want to record to tape? Unlike DV, there is no way, it seems, to play the movie on the timeline and through the firewire to the camera after you have rendered it once. It appears you have to re-render each time you want to record to tape. Am I missing something??

    Thanks,

Did you check your video on the timeline for dropouts, if there are none you maybe getting some GOP dropouts on the record back to tape, are you standard quality DV tapes or higher quality?

They are in fact standard tapes, and there is no dropout on the timeline…….maybe the tapes……….do you know anything about my re-rendering question?

    Thanks,
    Tod

There is no way at present to preview HDV footage on your timeline via firewire. I use the PNY540 graphics card with HD breakout box to preview timeline via overlay. With AspectHD much is in realtime so you don’t need to render to see your effects on a HD monitor.

Hi Derek, I think he’s refering rendering prior to exporting to tape not previewing, all my exports have been one shot deals as I haven’t had to redo a export so I can’t answer his question about rendering before each export to tape.
